London (CNN)A British police officer needed to be rescued by firefighters after getting his hands stuck in a pair of handcuffs.

Fire crew in Northamptonshire, central England, tweeted that they were sent to release an officer from the device on Tuesday morning.
"09:46 Police Officer released from handcuffs after they had failed, used pedal cutters to release," they wrote.
Scott Renwick, the Core Training Sergeant for the region's police force, admitted that he was the officer in question.
"Well that wasn't a good start to the day. Thanks to @northantsfire for cutting me out of some broken cuffs. #NotFunny. I would have laughed too!!," he wrote.
Renwick added that he walked himself to the fire station to get assistance.
"If I put a smile on a single face during these difficult times my job is done," he said in response to jovial replies from members of the public.

Police and fire have a fun back-and-forth rivalry. I know I’ve had my fair share of cigars at the firehouse while on duty. Hell, the firefighters even took pics of me doing the dishes after they made Thanksgiving dinner (which is what they do best). That said, I’d never call fire to let me out of a pair of handcuffs. And you will probably have some explaining to do unless your wife was the one who called 911.

circa 2016. Miss those days.... There’s no rivalry when you both work in the ghetto. Everyone’s trying to survive.

I know of one guy who locked himself in the humidor for hours....

:lookaround:

That could make for a hell of a survival story El Pres.! ?

I could just see the news headlines now ...
"A man was rescued today after being locked up in a humidor. Dishevelled and smelling strongly of tobacco, he slept on a bed he made from cigars. He managed to survive by eating nothing but tobacco beetles and wood mites, and drinking the water from the humidifier ..."

*He must've bought some cheap overseas handcuffs from somewhere, cuz we've had fellas who've used those kinds of cuffs to arrest somebody and then couldn't get them off because the key mechanism malfunctioned - and they had to be cut off just like pictured above here :pod:
