Man fights, kills one of the world's deadliest snakes while driving 60 mph on Australian highway.

A police officer in Australia who pulled over a driver for speeding discovered the man had a pretty good excuse — he'd just fought off a deadly snake and was racing to the hospital.

A 27-year-old Gladstone man identified only as "Jimmy" was driving about 62 mph on a highway west of Calliope in Queensland last month when he spotted an "angry" brown snake slithering through the gear stick towards his leg, according to a release from police.

“I just started to brake,” Jimmy said in a video released by police Tuesday. “…And the more I moved my legs … it just started to wrap around me. Its head just started striking at the (driver’s seat) chair, between my legs.........

that has got a fair bit of coverage here. strange time - mid winter, you rarely see browns or many other snakes. but that would have been a nightmare. browns do get angry and have been known to chase people, even horses. they may not be the most poisonous snake on the planet (land), but they'd be top three. if he had been bitten, we would not have heard his story.

in all honesty, i cannot think of anything i would rather not have in the car than an angry brown.

I was particularly terrified by “Jimmy’s” comment that this Australian death critter was striking the driver’s seat, between his legs... ?
