El Presidente Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 I may have had them once or twice. That would have been overseas and in company ...and I may not have been at my best. I see them coming through BR and am a little intrigued but also I am being asked as to how they are smoking. I can't give any valuable input so those that have recently smoked them, please lend a hand. Can we have members tasting notes on the following? Por Larrañaga Valiosos 2009 Por Larrañaga Regalias de Londres 2010 We look forward to your thoughts 1

Popular Post El Presidente Posted May 20, 2020 Author Popular Post Posted May 20, 2020 Excellent! I have the new Quintero LE 2020 for you 3 1 14
Popular Post CaptainQuintero Posted May 20, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 20, 2020 The PLs were the first 'premium' whole-box I bought, back in 2011. I went in looking for something like the Magnificos or the PLPC/ Asia Pacifico Robusto but they were much more like a mix of a SCDLH La Fuerza and Por Larranaga Monte Carlo. There's the familiar sweet caramel but it's delicate and lilting; not a smack in the chops like the PLPC. Some fresh bread notes that mix well with the buttery nature from a La Fuerza and a touch of floral hanging around. Odd touches of that blueberry jam you sometimes get in the last third with PL. Nothing overpowering in flavour, everything seemed very balanced. You got the impression it was sitting quietly in the corner with a Sunday paper trying to ignore the PLPC that was drunkenly picking fights with anyone it could stagger over to. It would be interesting to see how they progressed now, mine went a long time ago! 5

Bugger me. You paint one hell of a picture

maverickdrinker Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 Both are great cigars. Very delicate flavours and has all the characteristics of PL, particularly the caramel notes. Enjoyed these with coffee. Will see if I have anymore and fire one up to see how they are doing now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 3
Popular Post cigaraholic Posted May 21, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 21, 2020 Being a PL lover I have boxes of them both....the Valiosos have just gotten better and better the older they’ve gotten. I remember the first one I smoked many years ago was the woodiest PL I’d ever smoked, as the years have gone by they have become absolutely decadent. The de Londres started out more elegant, very rich and creamy, cappuccino cigars. I slowly smoked thru one box and have been sitting on the other one because they became so expensive I knew I would not buy another box.....I’ll fire them up shortly and let you know how they’re doing? 6 2
Perla Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 The PL Valiosos was my first premium box. It was a point where I decided to get serious with cigar smoking. The RE Suiza is for me the perfect summer smoke cigar. It has a lovely citrus tangy zest. Not to heavy. Simply nice and puffing through. curious about your thoughts. 2
Popular Post cigaraholic Posted May 22, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 22, 2020 It’s been a while since I smoked one of these, I remember really enjoying the first box I got, but put the second away when they became gold plated. As I remember this box has darker wrappers than the first box I smoked. URG JUN10 Beautiful deep colorado wrapper with a nice sheen of oil and well filled at 14.5 grams. Draw has the perfect amount of resistance.....for me. It hits the ground running with caramel, toasted tobacco, coffee and a earthy woodiness that I wasn’t expecting. That tells me these cigars still have a ways to go to hit their peek. An inch in and a mouth coating buttery sweetness coats my mouth, I’d ask the cigar to make me a iced coffee but I already have one. Smoking like a delicious aged PLPC but with more weight, a tad over medium bodied. Halfway in the coffee gets stronger, still buttery with wood and earth in the finish. I think of PL as my favorite morning smoke but these are afternoon sticks for me, which is when I’m smoking this one. Burn has been perfect, no touchups after 1 hour on my front porch with a gentle breeze. Starting the last third the body has picked up to well over medium and it’s reverting back to its mongrel childhood. I’d score the first 2/3 at 96 and the last third 92....theses cigars have quite a few years left in them....hope I do too. 7 1

I have the new Quintero LE 2020 for you first, i am feeling very proud of myself for working out the double quote thingee. only took 20 minutes. anyway, i smoked mine last night. i feel like i need not have bothered. cigaraholic's review could have been copied from my notes, or vice versa. amazingly consistent. the description is identical, although mine had a much firmer draw. the only time i needed to attend to the cigar was when i chopped off a fraction more to see if i could ease the draw. caramel, coffee and an earthy woodiness are all present in my notes. i very much agree that they have a long journey ahead of them - sadly, this was my only one, sacrifced on the altar of the presidential demands. but i was glad to experience it. if i did have a box of these, they'd go straight to the back of the humidor. i think they have years to go. again, like smoking an aged PLPC, although for me, the PLPC has a little more freedom to it. these have the caramel but are more restrained, more structured. burn was immaculate. as for scoring, cigaraholic is more generous for his first half than i managed. i would have gone 93-94 and then 92 for the second half. all up, 93. i believe i was less generous as the tighter draw prevented me from getting as much from mine. but i really enjoyed it and wish i had a box or two. i am doing it for kenfessions as i opened a few decent things to go with it. 4 1

cigaraholic Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 Round 2, the Valiosos....this is my idea of taking one for the team. I rarely know what cigar I’m going to smoke tomorrow, but last night I was smiling knowing I was going to smoke this cigar today. I don’t know how long I waited to try this cigar, but I remember smoking it and being very disappointed. At the time it was the most expensive box of cigars I’d ever bought, north of $400, and it was a wood monster. So back to sleep they went and I tried another when they hit the five year mark. This box has become magic, each cigar better than the last and they just keep getting better and better. Beautiful looking cigar, same shade wrapper as the de Londres and well filled at 15.2 grams. From the first puff there’s a nougat richness to this cigar, coffee, caramel and chocolate. For me these are after dinner cigars, today it’s afternoon with champagne. One inch in there’s a earth and wood finish that develops but it’s more delicate than the de Londres and a nice complexity to the candy bar going on in the front of my mouth. The cigar goes from just under medium body to medium full and the flavors keep building. The earth and wood seem to disappear as the milk chocolate becomes dark chocolate and the coffee goes from Columbian to espresso while never loosing its sweet caramel flavor, dessert in a cigar. If I could fault anything in this cigar it’s the construction, I did have to do a few touch ups, it went out twice for no reason, even though I was smoking outside with a light wind. But it did last 2 hrs, 30 minutes longer than usual. If I only knew then what I know now I would have gone deep on these...96 all day long. 2
Lant63 Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 Smoked a PL RDL recently. Stunningly decadent, amazing construction. Great pair with a non peated scotch or Brut/EB champagne. Interestingly enough these were released the same year as the PL Legendarios Spain which is also a great cigar.
