Popular Post StogieSteve23 Posted May 3, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 3, 2020 Opening Remarks: I am a much bigger fan of skinnier vitolas than hand cannons. This is the last stick from a box I found at Habana Libre a few years back. The only shop visited of all three trips I’ve taken that ever had these. I took the two boxes they had. I’m sure glad I did because it solidified my notion of liking skinnier cigars. Cold draw is a perfect resistance with delicious flavors of dried apricot, honey and hay. The wrapper has a nice sheen and while not too rough to the touch, there are many small silky veins seen to the naked eye. First Third: After toasting the foot, combustion is very nice and the burn is flawless. Cedar and florals are first to show with a slight white pepper on the retro. Lemon zest kicks out the pepper but only for a second. Toast with almond butter now appears as we move to the second third. Second Third: Draw, combustion, burn still perfect. Cedar and florals are making a comeback along with a very unpleasant anise/black licorice taste. Very unpleasant. Thankfully this was a 2 puff snuff and we’re onto roasted nuts/honey. Final Third: Draw, combustion, burn still perfect. Honey/cedar/slight vanilla notes. Delicious sweet hazelnut coffee smelling smoke. Huge cookies/cream hit which lasts for a nice 10 puffs or so. Last couple puffs leave a vegetal taste. Nubworthy delight. Closing Remarks: Fantastic construction with a nice complexity of flavors (minus the short anise hit) throughout. A truly excellent cigar, especially with just a few years on them. I’ve been able to build up a decent stock of boxes on these since buying the first two but I still wish they were much easier to obtain. For the price, you cant beat it IMO. Burn: 5/5 (Perfect – no touch up/relight ever needed) Construction: 5/5 (Perfect draw/combustion) Flavor: 4/5 (Satisfying – cedar – honey – nuts – vanilla – did not like the anise) Smell: 3/5 (Kind of blah until final third with sweet hazelnut smelling smoke) Wrapper: 4/5 (Smooth/Velvety – small veins) Overall Score: 21/25 12
