might not be what you'd expect, and certainly isn't the nicest or rarest stick in my humidors, but this was gifted to me by an old client serving a lengthy prison sentence a few years back. His appeal was just recently denied so he won't be getting out soon. 

Cold draw promises a nice experience construction and flavor wise, tobacco and hay.  First third starts off with mongrel on the retrohale with tobacco and earth flavors primarily in the fore, though leather begins to develop subtly. 

spice and shortbread come out to play in the second third, and I pour a glass of dark rum with chocolate bitters to compliment. That was a good call, and it really brings out some of the cigars subtle flavors of baking spice, cream and shortbread. 

final third crescendos into baking spice and shortbread notes, as the mongrel completely passes and there is no hint of bitterness. I pour a shot of fernet to finish this guy off with. I really enjoy how fernet compliments the more subtle flavors of a Cuban cigar, especially a cigar that has notes reminiscent of dessert. Really a winner, this was.

 

what would my review be without a gratuitous picture or meat on my grill out back? Had smoked ribeyes for dinner prior to the cigar review. Also excellent. 

I tells ya, I've been eating and drinking pretty good for the apocalypse. Hope you are too.

Indeed. I was in public service when this trial went down so no check to clear. It was nice of him to send me this box of smokes though, I must say.
