bbguardsp Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Seems like around 50% of CCs I smoke today have underfilled soft spots in the last half/third. Under 46 gauge seems to be the least affected (I tend to smoke 46 and above personally so that probably contributes to seeing it more). Many 46 and above I have to use Piggy's trusty "smash technique" around the band to prevent an inevitable tunnel issue. Wondering if anyone else has experienced similar issues. My humidor is 62% @68F, though I'm convinced this is manufacturing rather than condition. This is not detracting from my purchasing as I'm loving recent production flavor-wise. Just an observation I wanted to share with everyone else and see if there's any others with similar experience. Thanks. 1
Cabinet 50 Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Hi, In my particular experience,in the last few years the main problem that I have encountered is under filled cigars, and low quality cigars (poor quality tobacco and homogeneus blend . I smoke 2 cigars daily, in the last 20 years, more than 700 cigars a year and essentially Lusitânia, 898, d4, part short Hoyo dc, epicur 2, RASS, Punch dc, founders, belicoso bolívar, sir winston, magnum 46). ps:Sorry for my english (iam portuguese) Cheers,
BrightonCorgi Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 I had a Cohiba Siglo VI yesterday. I think it was from 2006, but it was borderline under filled. It stayed lit, but needed make sure I smoked it a little slower than usual.
cigaraholic Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 I haven’t smoked a under filled cigar for quite some time......I weigh all my cigars so I can avoid the 5 cigars a box that belong in the trash can.

I will give you a tip though. When you are copying and pasting text from an external source to use the paste special shortcut keys. In windows you press the Ctrl + Shift + V key. Not sure what it is on an apple keyboard.

Do you actually just trash them? What kind of variance exists between the good and bad in a box? Is it consistent? I.e. do you know that a certain cigar, regardless of factory and month/year always weighs X, or do you reset your baseline for each box?
cigaraholic Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 I don’t trash them....I give them to a friend. There’s a published factory weight for every cigar and of course no two boxes are the same. I prefer heavy cigars, with a firm draw. I find the heaviest cigars in a box smoke the best, taste the best and smoke the longest. I checked a box of R&J Mille Fleurs I just got, GOS JUN17....published weight 7.7 gr. cigar range was 7.2-9.9 gr. This is one of the best filled boxes I’ve come across in a long time, only 4 cigars under the published weight and all of them are close enough to 7.7 that I wouldn’t complain about them. But this box is the exception to what I’ve experienced for many years. Life is too short to smoke under filled cigars? 3 1

I would love to know that. I despise under filled cigars as well and would rather have an overfilled tight cigar that I can correct myself. I recently got a PSP box of shorts and it felt like a brick it was so heavy. The lid would not even stay shut because the cigars were so packed it was pushing it open. I am very excited to get into that box. 1
cigaraholic Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 Rob put a list up a while back: www.cigarsofhabanos.com/forum/topic/93095-list-of-cuban-cigar-weights/ 1
Notsocleaver Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 I really wish we could get an update for all of the newer releases though.
