Neal Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 I have recently observed a number of promotions for the San Cristobal Torreón in the ceramic jars: 2000 numbered jars were released in 2013. Does anyone know if those that are available now are part of the original release or from a new release?
NSXCIGAR Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 Torreon has been in continual production, as have all the standard LCDH/HS releases since 2013 officially, and unofficially since 2008. They may have had the original intention of limited production numbers but that was ostensibly never adhered to. Since 2008 only the LGC Inmensos has been cut. All others are still in continuous production effectively making them regular production cigars. FFYI, most recent codes I've seen for Torreon are LGR NOV 18 And I wish they would release them in 10s. 1 1

BarryVT Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 I was actually thinking the same thing! I know 2 or 3 places that have them right now. Cant imagine these are from the original 2000 release. If they were, than what they are asking would be a great price!

But nice to hear they'll be back They certainly aren't everywhere but several trusted vendors have had them generally available for the most part since 13 at stable prices. They really didn't go anywhere. They got a little scarce for about a year around 15-16 but then they were back. Not unique to Torreon. 55 minutes ago, Fugu said: not numbered I was wondering about that. I don't believe I've ever seen a numbered Torreon jar or box. Similar to all the other LCDH post-08 releases they stated a production number and never numbered the boxes or adhered to it. 1
LLC Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 I see them all the time in Havana. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Gamehawker Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 I bought a Jar of them "EML ABR 14" in 2016 and have smoked 3 of them (one in 2017, one in 2018 and one in 2019). They are an amazing, awesome cigar.

They seem to put some real effort into them. What a wasted opportunity not releasing them in 10s or even 20s. Instead we get the idiotic Prado. I'd also love to get HU Noellas in 10s or 20s as well. Jars should not be the sole format for any cigar. 2
Neal Posted November 10, 2019 Author Posted November 10, 2019 My tale of triumph and tragedy regarding the Torreón: I was in Spain in 2015 and chanced into an estanc (cigar shop) in Valencia where they had an open jar of Torreóns with 7 left at 19 euros ($22) each. The proprietor told me that if I bought all 7, she would throw in the numbered humidor at no charge. I jumped at the offer. I absolutely loved this cigar and spent a great deal of time trying to find others, but none available without the ceramic humidor. In 2018, we moved from Boston to California. The movers lost 2 boxes (out of 342) - one of which contained the Torreón ceramic humidor. 2

Neal Posted December 7, 2019 Author Posted December 7, 2019 Hmmm, that’s a good question. I can’t remember whether it was dated and numbered or just dated.
mtapia3 Posted December 7, 2019 Posted December 7, 2019 All the stores I visited in Havana last month had an abundant supply of these. I was tempted, but it's a hard buy knowing I can get 2-3 great boxes for the price of 1 jar. I didn't check any of the box codes so I'm not sure how recently they were produced. But I'm assuming they are pretty recent since I didn't see nearly as many during my prior trip in Nov 18.

Same price gets you 3 boxes of La Trova, 2 boxes of Fundys, 2 boxes of Monte DE, 2 boxes of RyJ Churchills...the list goes on. And almost all the Gran Reservas are priced around there. $500 goes a long way in Cuba. Incidentally, it seems that some vendors have been cutting prices a bit on Torreon lately. There was a big production run on them in late 18 and since I don't think many vendors even unloaded all the stock from the last run in 15/16 I'm not surprised worldwide prices are dipping down near $600. Not offering Torreon in 10s is one of the dumbest things HSA is doing these days along with releasing totally pointless cigars like the Prado and La Cabana and not bringing back the much-loved Muralla that would fit great in the current LCDH/HS lineup.

You aren't paying for the cigars, you're paying for that beautiful ceramic jar. It's a piece of art
