I misread the title as "Handling Spaniards". Was wondering for a second if either Ken went mad, or his account was hacked. :lol3:

Funny you say that Fuzz!

I misread the title as "Hardlining Spaniards" and was thinking for a second that maybe the Spanish had found a new way of dealing with stubborn politicians ?

westie, last time i remember catching decent fish on a handline would have been years ago up the reef, dropping deep. coral trout, sweetlip, red emperor, etc.

last time i remember trying one was in costa rica chasing tarpon. we had tried absolutely everything else and despite seeing something like 100 to 150 of them over the five days, some up to 200 lbs, no one got so much as a nudge. we were trying absolutely everything we could. fly, lure, trolling, bait, dynamite (well, not dynamite though i was almost that desperate), prayer (tells you how desperate i really was) and handlines. lord alone knows what would have happened if we hooked a tarpon on a handline (these rivers do not do small - in 40 years of records, they have only ever hooked one fish under fifty pounds) or how quick the 'fight' would have been. or if i'd have had any fingers left.

Exactly. How good was that guy with  what looked like a cross between a threadfin salmon and a catfish . Patience and skill with a hand line. Fingers intact
