Selections In Italy

BOTL I have a friend going to Barcelona and Rome next week. What cigars would you recommend I ask them to pickup while visiting those cities? I was thinking of some Exclusivos from each country. Your recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Just got back from Barcelona yesterday.  I tried the LGC exclusivo espana and didn't like it.  YMMV. Now the JLo Malecon Andorra- that is another story.  Unfortunately that isn't available in Spain. Bought that in Andorra.

Tell your friend to monitor developments in Barcelona before going.  I missed my flight last Monday because the demonstrators closed the highway to the airport and didn't allow us to enter the terminal. That was an unforgettable experience. On Tuesday while at the airport, I noticed on the board that both AA flights out were cancelled.

I’m currently in Rome and unfortunately not too much selection. I checked out the LCDH (Fincato) and while the shop was gorgeous, and the staff was very helpful, selection was primarily regular production with under a year of age.

in Roma look for Habanos especialist. there's one, not far from LCDH who had regionals. in Barcelona, you can find some aged cigars as well. I've seen singles of Talisman also in June and jars at Gimenos. they have dowwnstairs locker with wider selection, but you have to ask them to let you go there.

Fincato in Rome is a nice shop, but the stock is underwhelming.  Look for the LGC Invictos RE.  Another good shop to try is by the Pantheon.  When you're looking straight at it, go to the street on your right. There's a little shop called Di Rienzo's. They do food, coffee and tobacco. There's a cabinet humidor with their available stock. If you want boxes, ask the staff.  They're very helpful.

All the Habanos vendors are listed on Habanos website.  That could help you buddy from spinning his wheels looking around.  You could call these shops ahead of time and ask what they have and then reserve the boxes or even pay for them ahead of time.  Any regional would be you best bet, asking for odd ball cigars could be drawn out on the phone.  If there's any shot at some older machine made's; they're worth picking up.

This seems to be the general consensus in the thread.

Are people referring to all of Italy, or just Rome? I ask because I’ll be visiting Siena, Florence, and Milan in 2020 so if there’s truly nothing special to be had, it’d be great to know that up front so that I don’t spend time looking for something that isn’t there.

You won't have any luck in smaller cities, if you don't have luck in Rome. Milan? Maybe.

I really wish Italy were better.

 

France is better, spain moreso, Germany and Amsterdam are wonderful. In italy mostly what you get are the cava magazine shop places with a small cabinet.

 

I did find a small cafe (Di Rienzo) near the Pantheon in Rome that has some stuff... but nothing special. Great place to smoke outside though.

If you can find any of the Ramon Allones Short Perfectos Regional edition...they are a great little smoke. Goodluck with finding it though.

While in Milan a few years ago, I found a tobacco shop in the Galleria that had nice stock, and I picked up a few boxes of the La Flor de Cano Italian REs (Casanova). Seemed to have decent selection and I found the prices reasonable.

We were just in Italy a couple of months ago and had the best time. Like @bundwallah, we recommend  LGC Invictos RE. They will not be on the shelf. Ask to speak to the person in charge of Cuban cigars and the humidor.

Be kiss butt friendly, not critical. Ask if they have boxes of Montecristo Linea 1935. This is where got our first ones and have loved them ever since.

Ask if they have any rare singles left for smoking on the trip. Only someone like us  FOH would ask this. It will make them proud to share if they have it. 

This happens to us every time. If you become brothers they just want to share.
