parabola66 Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 What's that cigar or cigars in the bottom of your humidor that you don't acknowledge very often due to its rarity, unique-ness, or just some attachment to it? You'll smoke it one day, at the right time, but it hasn't come yet. Mine is a 2012 Fuente Opus X "A". Probably payed ~50$ if I remember correctly ?. I just haven't had the feeling of smoking it, and now that its been 5 years (I'm pretty sure they're aged 2 years before being shipped out for sale), I am wondering how long I can go before lighting it up. It's got a crack that I need to fix, probably lazyness is assisting in the aging process.? 1
El Hoze Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 I have really no cigars that are ready to smoke that I have a hard time putting a flame to. I’m a carpe diem guy. Having said that, I have alot of Opus X...including some As.....and that cigar I would sit on a few more years! Just my personal taste. 1
HumidorJuan Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 I splurged on some opus x lost city and now prize my single Sir Winston over it. In 8 years it’ll be this little batch of Connie Bs I have aging away. I think for me, hype aside, it’s gotta be an amazing smoking experience at the end of the day for me to really cherish something. 1

I know very little about NCs. 99.9% of my exposure to the hobby has been CC for many years. Someone anonymously put one of these in for me as a freebie on the last box pass I ran. I gathered it was something special, but couldn't find any clear info online about it. I never found out (despite trying) who had put it in there. I'm still curious what the story is with it. I haven't smoked it. Been sitting in my humidor for the past year. 7 hours ago, El Hoze said: I have really no cigars that are ready to smoke that I have a hard time putting a flame to. So can you help fill me in on the story of this cigar? What about it made it so special? What do I have to look forward to if I ever spark it up (or give it to a friend who is a connoisseur of NCs?
alloy Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 I have a BHK 54 from BTO June 13 that is in the bottom of my humidor along with some Fundis, several La Escepcion Don Jose and a Che robusto. Just can't bring myself to smoke it, yet. Maybe next year on my 65th birthday? It is the last of the box that was sooooooo good. Box lasted a few months, then there was one.

What do I have to look forward to if I ever spark it up (or give it to a friend who is a connoisseur of NCs? To be honest, I don’t know if there is any story behind it. I could be wrong as many Opus X do have some story attached. But the A has been produced over the years. What makes it “special” (or, probably more accurate, limited) is that Opus X are fairly difficult to come by supply/demand-wise and the A format is particularly the case just given it is more difficult to produce and they produce less of them as a result of the unusually large size...same could be said for a Monte A I suppose. The coffin also adds to it I would think, more of a gift/special occasion cigar. I believe the A is on the more mild side compared to the rest of the line on average but I have found that under the right storage conditions you almost can’t overage an Opus X going by my tastes. I don’t smoke a ton of Opus X (I smoke 95% cuban, 4% Opus, 1% Davidoff I’d say) but my better half grew up in Santiago, Dominican Republic so having Opus X on hand is kind of a requirement I feel like! I also have a ton of respect for Carlito Fuente. I run into him on airplanes quite frequently in/out of Miami...guy works his tail off. 1
mgcrunch Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 First rolled 1999 (I think), the usual premium and beauty of a big, beautiful wrapper. Opus doesn't box date (aside from certain yearly limited editions, e.g. Opus 22 or Toast), nor do they release information about how much age before release. Retail is $30, at least the last time I bought, market is about 50% more. They pop up every so often, I bought two boxes (10 count) at my local shop. I think they're nice cigars, but you're either into gran coronas, or you're not. There's a certain ceremony about smoking one and best served with friends in my opinion.

I was wondering what were the prices for the Behike cigars the first couple of years they were out? Do you remember what that box cost and if so would you mind sharing? From a internet search the first year they were out (2010) I was seeing prices listed at $300-$400 for a box.
alloy Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 I bought the box from a different vendor. It was $325 for a box of ten. 1
BeerPimp Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 When I first started getting into cigars and buying singles the local store had the Macanudo tour bus stop by. I purchased a 5 pack of Macanudo Maduros and one of their Vintage Cabinet Selection 1997 XX in a coffin. It is the first coffin cigar I have ever purchased. It hangs out in my little humidor with all the other NC I have. I keep talking about smoking it. Maybe next week I will have to. I will have to pick up a couple coffin CC cigars never purchased any. 1
