Can’t believe he let you get that close.  Did you have your squirrel hat on again?

We have several in the neighborhood. I can go outside and start "hooting^ at dusk, and get 5 or 6 hooting back to me. Oh, what we do for entertainment in LA.

How did you know. Saw him fly to the sign and walked up to him. I  was no more than 10 feet from him. I hooted at him a few times., then walked away. He never flew off...

I love birds of prey, they always mesmerize me. I have to stop and appreciate their beauty and magnificence. Lots of red-tailed hawks around here....

We actually have barn owls here in Hawaii. We also have a native Hawaiian owl that’s just a tad smaller named the Pueo (say pooh-A-oh). Gorgeous birds.

Thats your Hawaiian lesson for the day.

Awesome stuff! I've just started getting into learning different birdsong etc after moving more into the countryside and bring overwhelmed with them.

I still count myself really lucky to catch a glimpse of an owl, beautiful things

I’ve always had a fascination of predatory birds.  Don’t get too close to that owl. It can snatch something off your body.  Really cool encounter, though.
