Popular Post dominattorney Posted April 5, 2019 Popular Post Posted April 5, 2019 Second round of golf of the year, with the last round having been in early January, I thought deserved a special cigar as an accompaniment, so I reached into my dwindling 50 cab of Punch Double Coronas from 2013 which really started to hit their stride last summer. The day was lovely--68 degrees and sunny, and the cigar promised to be an excellent compliment. Cold Draw was light tobacco (duhhh), sweet cream, and hay. Before lighting it, I dropped a new Pro V 1 X on the deck of the first tee and striped a 2 hybrid down the left side of the fairway. Off to a good start. First few puffs were delightful, as they coincided with my playing partner's block slice out of bounds to the right. His frustration contained notes of despair, with hints of self-loathing that trickled in and out of the foreground. As for the cigar, stone fruit dominates in the first third, and the burn is consistent in a relatively calm breeze. The construction of this cigar looks solid, despite a thin wrapper. And it progresses relatively smoothly through the first third. At the outset, this cigar produces a small amount of smoke that really lets you appreciate the subtleties of the flavor. As above, stone fruit dominates but I get notes of cream and light coffee as I par the first three holes. The cigar picks up steam around the 4th tee, in which I nearly lose my long iron shot to the left. My playing partner nearly steps on it as i rush to rescue it from the tee box as his confident swagger causes him to loose his concern for what's really important here. The Second third sees the cigar generating some serious smoke, and the burn needs to be corrected minimally. Flavor profile is similar to first third to my palate, though stone fruit takes a back seat to tobacco, coffee, and twang. The golf gets boring now, with all of us more or less trading pars and bogeys. The Third Third coincides with a double bogey, and the wrapper starts to come apart a little as the wind picks up. Still lots of great flavors, with earth and coffee taking the driver's seat at this point. The celebration from a chip-in eagle went on long enough for me to let the cigar go out. After the re-light it wasn't the same, but it was still worth the ride, as i finally tossed it on the 13th tee box, only a little dizzy from the nicotine buzz, before knocking a base hit down the right side of the fairway. 9 1
