Fugu Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 This is probably not what you're wanting to hear, but there is no single cigar worth going over an already blown budget. If you are new to the game, you certainly can't go wrong following the advice given by fabes and 99call. 2

If you've been on a spending spree, maybe it's time to slow down. I always find it's really useful to mentally project yourself beyond the point, when the cigars arrive and how you feel afterwards. Getting a box of Talismans might be exciting, when they land, but sometimes high value smokes can feel like a burden, or a mistake once the excitement of the buy is over. I'm usually pretty strict with myself, and can often realise if I want to buy something stupid, and talk myself down from it. Remember a great collection is not only created by the cigars you do buy, but by the cigars you don't buy. Expand This is good advice. Also, think about how much you actually smoke, and how long your current inventory will last you at that rate. It's easy to get caught up in the aging game, and thinking "after this cab, and that box, and the other cab, there's only one box left!" There was a recent thread about "how much of your stock will go to someone after you're dead", and I plan on being around for a while, but it gave me pause. All that said, I am in no position to give anyone advice. 1
slowsmoke Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 anyone want to tell me how to delete the damn double (ok triple) posts ?♂️
bsubtown Posted February 12, 2019 Author Posted February 12, 2019 Thanks for all of the input. I am now on hold for the most part. Maybe some 1/4 boxes or a couple of loose ends here and there to pick up but I probably have enough for the time being. I should have added that part of my buying was fear of the regulatory environment in the US changing further making an already borderline transaction that much more difficult.

Expand I believe if the truth be known, that a lot of us have bought for the same reasons. Being in a country where you can't go to your local B & M and purchase Cuban Cigars, I for one keep much more in my collection, than if I could just go around the corner and purchase them.

Expand I have gone down a similar path. Bought a bunch of boxes. As others have said there isn’t much out there that won’t come up again. And better to save up for those boxes instead of buying a bunch of random stuff you may or may not like and not having the cash when a great opportunity comes up. I now buy singles to keep me out of my aging stash and only buy boxes that I know are a home run.
