Aruba LCDH

Recommended Posts

I’m heading to Aruba the first couple weeks in March. It seems to be getting harder and harder to find a place other than the beach and casinos to have a smoke. We stay at the Marriot and a couple of years back they went no smoking, even on the balconies.

I’ve searched through the past posts and haven’t seen anything current. Does anyone know of a good place to sit down and have a drink and a smoke?

Thanks

We stay a few doors down at the Ritz Carlton when we go to Aruba.  Same deal though.  At least they dont hassle you on the beach, like they did at a resort we went to in Jamaica last year.  I usually use the balcony though.  I take a cup of water out with me to use as an ash tray.  At night, nobody is going to notice.

The LCDH there (Cigar Emporium) is a nice little place to have a smoke too.  Prices are a little crazy though.

I've been to many many hotels which claimed no smoking, including on the balcony. I have yet to be reprimanded for it! Ha and I will continue until I do. Maybe I just jinxed it...

But then again, I've also never gotten in trouble for sex on the balcony before...oops hahaha

A couple years back I was smoking on the balcony at about 11 at night.  I was on the top floor 14th floor - 13 high). Got a light shined onto the balcony and a security guy telling me to put it out. I have no idea how he could see me from the ground unless somebody complained.

Go to Cigar Emporium (LCDH) in Oranjestad on Friday evenings for happy hour. They have 3 selected sticks marked down around 50% off if you want to buy anything. Otherwise like Sigmund said, it’s crazy expensive but a nice place to smoke.

Last year when we stopped into LCDH the humidity in the shop was 87%. They were keeping the doors open to help. Don’t think it helped. ?

WOW! That's insanity. I would never stay at that place again.

Yeah, considered it. Friends own a time share there and we split a couple of weeks every year. They didn’t kick us out or add anything to the bill (there’s a $250 cleaning charge if you smoke in the unit - don’t know if it applies to the balcony) but since it’s not my unit I don’t want to rock the boat.

No smoking on out door balconies....  That's something that drives me bonkers.  Sometimes the family and I will visit the smokey mountains and we will stay in a hotel that butts up the the small river that flows through downtown Gatlinburg.  The hotel has a no smoking policy (even on the balconies) and it drives me insane.  At least it's outside.  I'm not asking to smoke in my room.  They make you walk to the curb to enjoy a stick and I hate it.  Why can't I sit on my balcony and enjoy my cigar while I watch the sunset while listening to the sound of the river run.  Oh well.  Rules are rules.

How is it?

Anything I should look for?

Anywhere else or only trust lcdh in Aruba?

You really should bring your own to smoke regularly because the LCDH there is very expensive, and it is pretty much the only place on that island that I would trust for real Cuban cigars.  The ones I looked at at the airport at the time, seemed legit, but in general, I dont trust duty free shops.

Definitely go, and find some singles of cigars you have been wanting to try.  Smoke one there, and ask for a cup of Cuban coffee.  I do that every trip I make to Aruba.  It is definitely worth the premium you pay to do that, but I wouldn’t buy any whole boxes from them.  You can pay half for the same box right here.

I mentioned earlier in the post of Friday Happy Hour at Cigar Emporium LCDH in Oranjestad.  If you want to buy something and give the shop some business, that’s the time to do so. 3 featured sticks around 40-50% off their retail. It’s a nice shop and they have everything there. Colombian gal named Monica runs it. I’ll pick up a few singles when I’m there. Don’t buy anywhere else on the island though. The airport duty free looks legit but the prices aren’t good at all. Here’s an example of a recent happy hour.
