MikeinKS Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 I'm doing my ROTT smoke of this Epicure No. 2 (ABR 18) that I put in my humidor for 2 days from arrival. As you can see, the wrapper is burning black on re-touch burn and oily (tar?) with a black, thick ash. Is this just a sign of youth or is something else going?
Derboesekoenig Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 It just looks like you are torching the hell out of it. What kind of lighter are you using? 2 1

MD Puffer Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 I smoked an Epi 2 (ABO Sep 17) last night from a cab I received last week. Burnt surprisingly perfectly. I was expecting something off just based on how recently I'd received it but it was burnt perfectly. No offense, but that thing looks hideous and like the previous poster, I wonder how you're lighting it- or what with.
99call Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 If you notice the burn line on cigars with a reasonably thick wrapper with decent oil content (which that epi 2 looks to be) it's often jet black and quite glassy. Effectively with your touch up, you've just created a large area of this. If you have a cigar with a wrapper like this, you'll notice the black glassy burn line, and it will often angle inwards to the centre of the cigar. Unless bunched incorrectly, all these burn issues should correct themselves in time. Try dry boxing, if you cant keep your hands off them
Andy04 Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 The leaf has either been under fermented, or is extremely wet when lit.
El Presidente Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 2 days after arrival. It really could be anything. Revisit in 30 days. 60 days better. It really makes a huge difference. 1
MikeinKS Posted December 10, 2018 Author Posted December 10, 2018 Thanks all for the replies and some good advice.

Man hyper-analyzes why said cigars are not 100% consistent. Man drives self mad. Other man embraces the zen ephemerality of said cigars. Enjoys every experience as fleeting and imperfect, for all its imperfections. Oooohhmmmmmmm. 2

And why would you want to waste a possibly good cigar for the lack of patience? ?
