Davidoff Cigars has launched a limited-edition cigar pack and accessories to mark the Chinese Year of the Pig.

Davidoff said its pigtailed Gran Toro cigar, which “echoes the Pig’s pig-headed determination to pursue a goal”, offers a sophisticated, complex and flavourful blend.

Cutting-edge launch: Davidoff says its pigtailed Gran Toro is a great match for the Year of the Pig celebration.

The 6 x 56 format has a Dominican wrapper from the Yamasá area, Sumatra binder from Mexico and filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic.

Limited to 9,300 boxes worldwide, the ten Gran Toro cigars are presented in an Asian-inspired red box that targets gifting. The Pig is etched in gold and the box contains an insert with details of the Year of the Pig.

Davidoff Cigars marks the Chinese Year of the Pig with the limited-edition range.

The new line includes a mocha-coloured aluminium ashtray, which features the Davidoff logo and is enclosed in grained leather. It is limited to 300 pieces.

The Year of the Pig double-blade stainless steel cutter will cut from a 22 to a 58 ring gauge. It is also limited to 300 pieces.

Question for any that may know. Every year there is a new edition in a fancy shmancy box, celebrating the Chinese New Year.

Check these out, as I am sure you are all aware.

But, my observation of these cigars is the following. Price out of the ballpark considering they are made in Dominican.

My guess is they are not that unique a smoke every year.

Davidoff are ahead in terms of marketing and audience capture.

Tried Monkey (I am one of course!) and Rooster. Didn't think much of them but that was only one try, have friends who really enjoy them. As always for the price I know where my money goes.

If only Habanos tapped into this market...but then again they can't even keep up with regular programs.

Would be interesting to see sales figures for these limited Chinese horoscope editions.

Davidoff has came out with some fantastic cigars recently. IMO...their top stuff compares with CC's. However, they come with 3-4x the price tag. If you're wealthy and want perfect construction, they're definitely worth it.
