Doesn't ignition from a petrol or oil lighter spoil the taste of cigars? Aficionado taught me to smoke only wooden matches or gas turbo-lighter ...

I wouldn't be using it for cigars.

I am just a sucker for quality gadgets. :D

You should get the new LeGrand DuPont - I love mine!

My issues with the Grand DuPont:
  1. No ping!
  2. Yes it has a soft flame and a jet, but it requires you to light the soft flame in order to get the jet going... which completely defeats the best part of the jet -- the wind resistance!
When they fix #2 by allowing the jet to light independently of the soft flame, yes, it'll be great. Presumably they can put the PING in too

Yeah, I miss the ping as well - I was wondering if that was just an issue with my particular unit but it seems not.

So far, it’s worked well for me outdoors, but because I can’t bring it on a plane, I’ve only used it around home where it’s not crazy windy.

I was told by a store rep that they cannot get it to "ping" because of its size?  Not sure if it's true but that's what I was told.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I was wondering how your Le Grand is doing now after some time.  Any issues? Any regrets?  Did you ever start using non-Dupont butane?

All is well with it. It burns a good amount of fuel so I’m getting a bit tired of refilling it. I still only use DuPont butane.

Thanks and happy 7000th post!  I am considering getting one, once I get over the sticker shock.

People have used oil based lighters for 100 years lighting cigars (before butane lighters).  Looks neat.
