how many times have we seen people upend themselves, their lives, through stupid tweets and posts? enough, i would suggest, that the world should have learnt. apparently not.

our friend here might be able to swim fast but this is an act that is really so stupid it beggars belief. why on earth would you post a pic like this? even if you thought that what you were doing was completely innocent (and it may well have been), a picture of an athlete with a needle in his arm? if i made that up, no one would believe it. or perhaps they would.

It does look completely innocent. He looks like a completely innocent guy. He's proven otherwise. 2 years seems like a harsh ban though. Atleast he stood up and accepted this one right off the bat.

IV's like this aren't uncommon at all, you can call a tech up to you hotel room in Vegas to "Gas you Up" after a night of heavy drinking. A shower and a few hundred CC's of vitamin infused Saline and your ready to do it all over again. No doctor or prescription needed. I prefer greasy pizza and some Gatorade. I also can't fathom having some random person jam a needle into me.

the sad thing is that doping seems so rife throughout many sports these days. when younger, i was fanatical about things like the olympics. now, i am so cynical about them all that i really don't care. ditto cycling.

and what i hate even more is all the hypocrisy about this. mate of mine ran in the olympics (he now has the far more sensible occupation of making great gin) and some of his stories were just depressing. one of our female athletes who has been extremely outspoken about drugs in competition was one of the worst. i once asked him about some of our great swimmers. he didn't name anyone but he couldn't stop laughing at the thought that most of these guys were not drugged to the eyeballs.

In a pub, I once saw this guy wearing a t-shirt that read: "Stupid People Shouldn't Breed." I think that can be applied to social media in so many cases. Things are not getting better.

Re the doping, have you watched the doco Icarus? That closed the door on the subject for me; it's not a matter of who's doing it, but who isn't.

no doubt much in that but sadly, we had them before facebook and we'll have them after.

I’m with Billy Connolly. Level the playing field. Remove all the drug bans, and let them take what they like.

World records would tumble...?

Not sure if it´s innocent. At his level I am pretty sure he knows exactly what is and what is not allowed to do.

I read somewhere that he could have had this juice but first he must inform the anti-doping guys and do it in a hospital or something like that,

Social media doesn't need an intelligence test, it is an intelligence test.

As in, if you're intelligent, don't use social media. 3.7 billion people fail this simple test each day.

Isn't this forum a form of social media? Posts can be liked, you can have 'friends', post images daily (smoking threads,  weekend threads etc), link/share articles,  you have a profile,  etc etc
