Connoisseur Kim Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 I am just found that my local B&M has Prince GT-3000S torch lighter which is the best torch in my opinion and wonder how do they able to import torch lighers and selling them (we cannot bring toches normally such as aeroplane, etc, etc). Note. When I asked staffs about this they said I have to mail them if I want to bring torch lighter to other countries safely which made me wonder also (although I am most likely to get FOH lighter I really like that Prince Torch's big fuel tank and powerful flame). El Presidente Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 You have to bring them in empty. In some countries the documentation will also need to show that the lighter meets that provinces child safety requirements. Best where possible to call them a Chef Tool. 2

So is emptying and bringing torches (mailing) also applies normal consumers like us (aeroplane trip)?? Sent from my SHV-E300S using Tapatalk
filltang Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 At least in the US, you cannot travel with a torch lighter, empty or not, in either carry on or checked luggage. Zippos and disposables are OK with exemption (see below) In terms of mailing, I'm not 100% certain, but I've purchased several torch lighters over the internet which have been mailed to me (empty, obviously) with no issues Ref: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/flammables 1

For my understanding aftet studying long time, FoH lighter seems to goto torch for travelling without hassle (main reason why I am considering purchasing FoH lighter). Hope that mailing would do a trick if I want to bring/order torches from other countries. Note. How do you place FoH torch after separting it into two parts with refillable fuel cell before reaching airport security? Also, do you consider mail torches for travelling?? I saw someone with Soto torch who was confiscated by airport security in Korea which makes me scared. Also, do you mail torches to destination where would you travel?? Sent from my SHV-E300S using Tapatalk I've only tried to travel with them once (I did not know these rules at the time) and had mine confiscated. Never mailed them where I was traveling.. and in the future, I'll probably just buy a cheap one at my destination. Or use matches. Or find a cigar lounge to smoke at where they would undoubtedly have torches to light. As far as the FOH lighter goes, I'm not familiar with it, but if its a torch you can somehow travel with, that sounds fantastic. 1

FoH lighter is a torch lighter which can be separated into two parts if I am not mistaken. Many users of FoH torch showed satisfaction which is the reason why I might ended up having this torch.Sent from my SHV-E300S using Tapatalk 1
fundadores Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 I've had empty soft flame lighters returned by mail to me after shipping them. The regulations are getting ridiculously strict.
Derboesekoenig Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 I always travel with my torch lighter (in checked luggage) and never had it confiscated. It's been on countless domestic and international ventures. Maybe I've just been lucky, who knows.
mt1 Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 Just FYI the Prince GT 3000S has a lot of "fakes" or clones if you will--they work just as well in my experience (I have 5 of them, one original and four clones, spread around my place and a few friend's places where we smoke). As for travelling, I believe if the torch is entirely empty (i.e. never ever had fuel in it, never used) you can usually get it on the plane (TSA recommends putting it in your checked back with a note saying it's empty in case it gets checked). Have a friend who carried one on board, it was brand new and entirely empty and after some negotiating with the TSA agent, they let him through, but I think that's rare. If you can buy one online, they'll ship it empty and via ground usually so it'll be fine.
Duxnutz Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 There’s not many airlines that will let u travel with one; empty or not, checked or carry on. Regularly see them confiscated at the checkpoints so wouldn’t bother. There was a tsa approved lighter box I heard about, dunno what happened to that.
Corylax18 Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 I've been flying 25-35 domestic US roundtrips a years for the last 5 years or so. I've had a gassed up torch lighter with me about 90% of the time. Due to the equipment I carry in my check bag, TSA hand searches it about 60% of the time. At least one way per roundtrip. I've never had a single torch taken, ever.

The problem of the airline regulation is it varies greatly from country to country and still having a common rule which is not allowing torch lighters at all despite of this. Maybe I am just stick with FoH torch which gets good reputation on forum. For FoH lighter users, how do you place them before reaching checkpoint in airport??? I would like to share some example that the regulation about confiscated items in airport varies country to country although it is not torch related. For example, in Korea airport you cannot bring any pornographic materials like Playboy magazine due to local law and these are most likely to be confiscated all the time (although they let you bring some of these items leniently if they found these items are not too pornographic or just simple luck). Bagman Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 I've been looking for a solution in Cuba. Always so windy. Hiding behind walls at Hotel Nacional trying to get my cigar lit with one of the cheap bic lighters I bought there. Wish there was a better way. 1

Never had an issue. 1

Next time I will bring an empty torch to Cuba and fill it there. Checking out the casa/hotel I always leave some goodies. The lighter is always there. I dont want to give any more reasons to have my luggage opened besides cigars. Hundreds of them. 1
LLC Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 You can often buy a cheap torch lighter wis gas in Cuba. The FOH lighter can be separated into three and I normally put the lighter part in my toiletries case and then one part in my checked bag and one the other part in my carry on. If I am not checking a bag I take a nice and match’s. I’v also bought inexpensive torch’s on line 20 at a time for under $2 each and then take an empty one to fill at my destination, including Havana and then just give it to someone before I come back home. The one I was using for this is a great lighter but I can’t find it any more. 1
mt1 Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 On that note, how do I order the FOH torch? I'm about to pull the trigger on the SOTO torch converter but would rather have the FOH one...
PapaDisco Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 You have to separate the FOH torch, otherwise it's a working torch and not allowed in carry on. In pieces it's just a soft flame lighter and that's legal in the U.S. and most other places (not China!). I've had mine inspected by TSA hundreds of times, and only once was it confiscated. So your risk is getting inspected by some kid who didn't get the memo. Once in a blue moon I get my cigar cutter taken too, but a hundred other times you're just fine. 1

They sell cheap torch lighters at all Casas in Havana - like 3 to 5 CUC ... use it there for your stay and give it away ...? 2

As an airline pilot who is about to head into 3 days of simulator recurrent, probably involving some kind of cargo compartment fire; I’d urge you to reconsider your actions. Most likely you’d be one of the asshats grabbing your belongings as people are trying to evacuate. Rules are there for a reason. 4
