bpm32 Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 I typically drybox cigars for 3-7 days, which has worked out great when the relative humidity of the house was 25-40%. Now I’ve moved and I live in a house where I don’t have central air and inside conditions are usually 65°/60%. Anybody have any tips for dryboxing at (slightly) lower % humidity?

Can’t remember the specific type people recommend. There’s one particular brand I’ve heard is best.
chris12381 Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Boveda actually makes 49% packs for guitar storage. I would assume this would remove humidity for you in a controlled manner. Sold on Amazon. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk 1

bpm32 Posted July 4, 2018 Author Posted July 4, 2018 Thanks!--I did a search for lower RH Bovedas, but I missed these. I tried some standard silica desiccant, but humidity dropped to 12%, which seemed way too low. 1
Bagman Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 If you keep your cigars at 62% why would you need to dry box? I never understood that 1

I guess for me it’s comparable to aerating a bottle of wine—often just a subtle difference but sometimes a major difference. But for all I know it’s all in my head.

Just curious is all I know plenty of people who like to long-term-store their cigars at different conditions than where they prefer to smoke them. I can’t begin to understand the innumerable reasons each person does things the way they do. I don’t bother to try. I just accept it, lol.
Silverstix Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 Then you keep them dryer in the first place. Just curious is allPersonally I’m with you. My smoking stash I keep at the conditions I like to smoke. But to each his own I suppose Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Bagman Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 Thats why you have a long term storage humidor and a short term one. Then a third box for dry boxing is just a foreign concept. Keep your short term humidor where you like it. I've tried it a few times. Never more than 48 hours. Usually by that time the cigar wrapper starts to crack. To each their own, enjoy. Just makes no sense to me!

I have a big wineador and 1 small/1 large traveldor (depending on how long I’m away from home). I’m *usually* smoking out of the traveldor, just because it’s easier. I never really fret about it though. I just smoke what i wanna smoke. I *guess* that’s analogous to what you do?
bpm32 Posted July 5, 2018 Author Posted July 5, 2018 I didn’t realize I had such a weird system. Basically I keep everything at around 67% and if I thought I’d like to smoke something I’d take it out and drop it into an old cigar box and let it dry out a little. Didn’t think to use a secondary humidor—what do you guys keep those at? 1
Bagman Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 Long term = 65% Current smoking = 62% No dry boxing. Not saying one was is right or wrong, just the way I roll. 1

mt1 Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 I keep mine at 65% in the humidor, so before smoking, I just toss them in the microwave for about 15 seconds on high which brings them to 60.2814%, which is my favorite humidity. 1 1
joeypots Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 I keep a supply to smoke in my desk top. I got a two 60 gram Bovida bag holder and 62% Bovida bags. This has proved to be the best humidity system I have used thus far and seems to keep the desk top at 60%. I think I'll switch to 58% BBs if I notice that the recent wave of humidity is too much for the current set up. I keep boxes at 60% as well in a bigger humidor. The issue there is excess humidity most of the year, another subject all together.
