What's Hot, What's Not : Tales from the Warehouse.

Summary:

Cohiba shortage has struck home. It is not just with the distributors but with LCDH in Cuba as well. In relation to the others what has been out continues to be out.

All premiums and super premiums appear to be on life support in terms of supply. I haven’t seen a Trinidad la Trova for 6 months.

Still some gems shining through the darkness.  

What's Hot

1. Hoyo De Monterrey Epicure 2.  A couple of mastercases may not make the summer….but these were beyond good. There is that much rubbish around, lock in the codes. LGR ABR 18
2. Partagas Lusitania 10’s.  Just superb consistency in these. Magic BUP JUN JUL 17
3. Montecristo Number 2 (10) Only in 10’s but what a remarkable run we had. TPO MAR 18
4. Partagas P2.  Sensational quality. Pick of the piramides for another month. MSU DIC 17 and MSU ABR 18
5. Ramon Allones Gigantes.  Great to see the big girl in such fine form. ABO SEP 17
6. Montecristo Number 5  RUO NOV 16.  Each box are like chocolate soldiers. Hardly an average box.
7. Ramon Allones Specially Selected 50 cabs  MSU MAR 18.  A couple of mastercases that were out of this world good.
8. Montecristo  Number 4 UEB MAR 18. They should frame these boxes in every Cuban factory as a reminder.
9. Por Larranaga Petit Corona OBM MAY 17. Some of the best of a tough year for the PLPC.
10. Partagas Serie D number 4 LGR MAR 18  It had to be great to knock the Juan Lopez Seleccion Number 2 out of the top 10 this month.

*date codes are indicative (no exclusive) of the best that I came across.   If you are buying blind elsewhere, you can do worse than to hunt for these.

What's Not

1. San Cristobal Principe. They are starting to peeve me no end.
2. Vegas Robaina Famosos. A vagrant with a nicotine addiction wouldn’t smoke one currently. Most are rancid.
3. Cohiba Maduro 5 Secretos. I am not sure why they even tried this month. Some exceptional boxes among the rubble of disillusionment.
4. Sancho Panza Non Plus. I can’t even sell them as seconds.
5. Bolivar Corona Junior. Back to back to back crap.
6. R&J Exhibicion 4. Just one good  mastercase but inconsistency in these is epidemic currently. They should stop if they are not going to try.
7. HDM epicure Number 1. She is due for a comeback but oh lord she needs some help. Better this month but still off the pace.
8. Partagas Salomones. What’s worse than a small crappy cigar, a big crappy cigar. Someone put some tobacco in these!
9. Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchill. In the words of Elmer Fudd …”be vewy vewy careful”
10. Cuaba Exclusivos……ay dios mio

I was fortunate to pick up 1,3,7,8 & 10 last week in Havana. Even the date codes match.  I'll have to verify the factory codes.

You're spot on about the Cohibas.  I could only find Robustos (3 packs) and Media Siglos (25)in the 4 LCDH's I went in.

Did all the good Epi 2s go yesterday on 24/24, or are there some good ones left?  Maybe some a shade lighter but still oily with good wrappers?

What do you do with the crap boxes?  I for one would not be opposed to purchasing a "mystery bag" for a fixed price where you throw in X amount of whatever sticks you don't think are otherwise sellable....you know, for those pesky moocher friends of friends who ask for a cigar and then leave it after two puffs because it's "too strong".

They end up as monday seconds or sold wholesale to bars, clubs , bottle shops, cheap arse locals (humidor seconds) or shipped to Asian clients who supply the above wholesale clientelle.

Everything moves at a price point.
