GasGuy82 Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 So I’ll be in Chicago from Tuesday the 3rd through Sunday the 8th for my sister-in-laws wedding. I’ll be staying at the Hotel Lincoln on North Clark. Looking for recommendations, both indoors and outdoors, for where to burn. I know it will be humid and have prepared as much. Would appreciate any and all insight and advice from anyone in the area or frequents Chicago. Thanks!
Habana Mike Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 You're about 1 mile from Biggs Mansion - haven't been but heard good things. It's also about 4 miles from Iwan Ries. Decent old shop with a nice lounge you can use for a slight fee. 1 1
Cayman17 Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 I smoke at Iwan Ries because it’s right next to the Palmer House, my usual haunt whenever legal proceedings bring me to Chicago. It’s a decent place to grab a smoke, not very swanky though. 1 1
GasGuy82 Posted July 1, 2018 Author Posted July 1, 2018 Thanks for the recommendations guys! I really appreciate it! On another note, how is Chicago when it comes to smoking in public?
Diabolicalpherpher Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 Updown cigar on Wells and North is another spot that’s probably the closest and open til late. The shop seating is small but there is an outdoor patio out back. Biggs has a day pass that is a bit pricy at $75/ day but they are open late and has outdoor and indoor seating. technically, all the Chicago city parks are no smoking, otherwise it’s all good. 1
Popular Post 5thStarChicago Posted July 1, 2018 Popular Post Posted July 1, 2018 I'm one of the owners of Up Down Cigar. Hotel Lincoln is only about 4 blocks north of my store (1550 N. Wells). Please come say hello while you're here! I'm always happy to see fellow FoH members. Cheers, Phil 3 2
foursite12 Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 My advice is to take Phil up on his invite. Great guy, great shop. Location is ideal and the patio is a nice alternative to the usual indoor lounge. 2

Buck14 Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 You can’t beat an invite from an owner of UpDown and it is very close to your location! If you have a little time and like some variety I’d hop in an Uber and take it up to Big Mike’s in Skokie, IL which is just North of Chicago. Might be 25-35 minutes from your hotel so maybe not worth the time. That’s my local place, I live in the Lincoln Square neighborhood in Chicago about as far North Central in the City you can get. I’ll probably be there tonight, if you end up going PM me and I’ll definitely go. Big Mike’s is 100% inside. It is a nice place, not fancy like Biggs but not rustic either. Neighborhood place. There’s probably 40 nice moderately sized leather-ish chairs in the main area with maybe 8 flat screen TVs. There’s about 4-5 tables on the side for cards or hanging out in you dont want to be near the tv area with about an additional 20 chairs. Theres a long table for eating area with maybe 8 chairs. And a pool table area with gaming and video game machines. And a baby grand piano. You can bring in food and it’s BYOB (you can bring in your own booze). Casual but caters to all people. I wear a Tshirt, sandles and shorts in the Summer. But there are guys in suits and biz casual too. I have a locker up there with a couple bottles of Bourbon?or three. https://g.co/kgs/Yfi1pq http://www.bigmikescigars.com/ 1
