Popular Post ElJavi76 Posted June 1, 2018 Popular Post Posted June 1, 2018 Cohiba Medio Siglo SGA ABR 17 Pairing: Nesspresso Intenso Sur Glace w/a splash of almond milk. Or as Ken might call them, Cohiba thumbs. If you haven't already watched the FoH video review on this smoke, do yourself an enormous favor and go watch. The @El Presidente and @Ken Gargett are their usual selves. Pure entertainment for the masses. That being said, this cigar is overpriced for its format. There are a few other PR options out there including the HdM Petit Robusto and the Party D5, where you get more value. Then there's the conversation of, is this just a shorter version of the CoRo. That's a no-go! Although those candied hay and honey flavors Cohiba has in their flavor profile are present… This bad boy stands alone. At cold, this smoke is impeccably rolled with some barnyard and twang coming off the foot. The draw is just right. It has to be because if you get a wind tunnel here it's a 20 smoke and if it's too tight your ears will pop with every pull like you're on an airplane. Toast the foot. Few puffs and we're moving! Notes in a stream: Grassy. Golden. Honey. Sweet hay. Caramel. Toasted tobacco. Roasted coffee. Full. Dark. Dense. Coffee. Sweet. Observations: This thing starts off at like 6/10. Coming to the halfway mark you're at about 9-10/10. It's short enough that I imagine they wanted/needed to get to the point. Think of a mixed drink. This isn't that. This is a shot of tequila, or for my Colombian friends some aguardiente. Some of the flakiest ash I've ever seen on any stick. Burned a little wonky at times but just let it sit. It autocorrected every time. Bursts of sweetness even after it got serious and stopped playing around. Like the last sip of an espresso, where you get the darkest sweetest coffee. I could hear the volado crackling. Almost like the fuse on fireworks, that hiss as it burns. Never paid attention to this before but looked and saw some of the parts that were burning a little faster. I'll reiterate, this cigar is clearly overpriced for a PR. However, if you're about getting to the point. Smoking a cigar and feeling like you smoked a cigar, meaning having some long flavors stay with you… Then give this a try. Grab some singles when you can. I tried one about two months ago and instantly knew I had to have a box. Btw, the highlight of the FOH review is Rob asking Ken how his draw is. Go check it out. I thoroughly enjoyed this stick. If you enjoyed reading, don't be shy and “thumb” me up. Get it!? Cheers FOH, Javi They did it better! 9
Derboesekoenig Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Interesting review. I haven't been smoking much Cohiba lately and don't remember ever trying this one. I will have to give it a shot soon. Thanks for the review! 1

Danimalia Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 Awesome review. Aside from the poor value and size, it sounds like a cigar right up my alley. So, a dilemma. Might have to try some singles or half/quarter boxes if I get the chance. 1

Are Grand Reserva's really worth that much? I guess it's a matter of taste and budget. These aren't as crazy as some of the aforementioned. I will vouch for their tastiness and they burn long for a PR. Cheers 1
KavalanWhisky Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 Totally agree, I smoked my first one last week and felt that it was literally a Siglo VI chopped in half. That been said for the price point there are way better sticks IMHO with more character and flavour development. Montecristo Dante for example, awesome stick and a LE and cheaper than the Medio. 1

KW the Monty Dante's are tasty but I'd challenge the price point argument. The Cohiba MS's are roughly $16 or less a pop if you buy the box from our host. I'm not sure if early on the Dante's were cheaper but those are packed x 10 vs the Medio Siglos. I agree tho, there are many other options with great development and better price points. But as you well experienced... These are pretty damn good.

Ah I bought a 3 pack of turbos and the price point was about $22 a stick. At $16 that is a better proposition for a more frequent smoke. I'm going to pick up some Monte Media Coronas and Trinidad Vigia's and see how they compare against Cohiba. Before I smoked this one I always thought this size of smoke was a little pointless as I normally prefer robusto size upwards and feel the perfect smoke time is 90mins+ to enjoy a good cigar but this has really changed my perspective and made me want to try out other cigars in this format. The challenge comes in not smoking these as fast but also at the right speed to get the flavours from the smoke. 1

At $22 a stick, yeah these can be cost prohibitive. I made use of the coupon and got mine at closer to $14 a stick. I haven't tried the Monte MCs but I'll say the Vigias are very different to anything in the Cohiba line. They're amazing but these Cohiba MCs are much richer. I get more cedar out of the Vigias than this Cohiba. But that's just my experience.

Interesting, well I'll leave a review on here once I get mine into smoke. I've not had too many Trinidads, I've only tried the fundadores and that was decent but didn't blow me away.
