Then we're all still confused. The only brands that do not use 100% Auelta Abajo tobacco are Quintero and JLP. Quintero uses some Vuelta Abajo while JLP uses 100% Vuelta Arriba.

There are several tobacco growing regions in Cuba:

Vuelta Arriba

Vuelta Abajo

Partido

Semi Vuelta

These regions produce tobacco for all the brands of Habanos SA.  While some brands may contain tobacco from Vuelta Abajo, only Trinidad, Cohiba, and special releases are made from 100% Vuelta Abajo tobacco.  They use the best tobacco from the best growing region.  That’s what makes them premium and why they are considered to be more opulent than the other brands.  Yes, you are correct; other brands also use tobacco from Vuelta Abajo, but it is not 100% like Trinidad.  100% = binder, wrapper, filler.

...hope that helps with your confusion.

Yep I have seen that Dr Joe video. I'm not really discussing or want to get entrenched in conspiracy of yesteryear, or how the brands started out, more to take a stark look at the blends as they stand

??? Trini has only been established in '69, commercially available since about 1997. Cohiba production started in '64, even not bearing a brand name before 1966, being commercially available from

Great point, I think my use of the word opulence was a mistake.  I guess I was trying to communicate a blend that embodied the 'perfect imperfection'. i find something disingenuous about Cohiba. The h

I was mistaken that the only brands using non-Vuelta Abajo tobacco are Quintero and JLP. It appears that PL and RG use tobacco from the Semi Vuelta region for their short-filler Panetelas and Panetelas Extra. Also, it appears LFDC may use Semi Vuelta leaf in all models.

Only JLP uses tobacco from Vuelta Arriba.

However, Partido is the region that specializes in wrapper leaf for virtually all cigars. HSA's website does not specify that wrapper leaf for Trini is grown in Vuelta Abajo--only that the filler and binder are. For Cohiba, it's a little less clear as the website states "The leaves for Cohiba are the “selection of the selection” from the 5 finest Vegas de Primera in San Juan y Martínez and San Luis districts of the Vuelta Abajo zone.So it states "The leaves", thus not precluding all leaves, including wrapper, to be from Vuelta Abajo. However the statement on Trini is For several years Trinidad was made at El Laguito, the Cohiba factory, where its uniquely fragrant and aromatic, medium flavoured blend of filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone was developed." So this statement does seem to omit Trini wrapper being from Vuelta Abajo.

What's your source for the claim that Trini wrapper is Vuelta Abajo leaf and not Partido?

Potentially they can. In reality many are not.

Take Dip 2. I haven't seen one rolled outside of La Corona since 2016 (to my recollection). Cuaba same. Trinidad is FD since 2004/5.  There are plenty of other examples. However there are many cigars rolled in numerous factories

Hey Prez is all Trinidad at FD? I have 17 Vigia from you with SLE. I have beautiful ARS DIC 17 fundi, and have also seen many RAG (Or something close to that late 17) fundi that you have put up on 24 as well. So are all these FD factory for trinny? SLE, ARS, RAG?

While some brands may contain tobacco from Vuelta Abajo [...]

A slight understatement ;) - all tobacco, i.e. all filler and binder leaf, and most wrapper, for export premium quality cigars (Habanos, handmade, tripa larga) is grown in Vuelta Abajo. Only Vuelta Abajo and to a part Partido (for wrapper) are the regions which are relevant for the production of premium CCs, which we are discussing here.

It's not only Cohiba and Trindidad (they are claimed to exclusively use tobacco from the 'best plantations', vegas finas), wrapper leaf for a lot of other Habanos brands and vitolas is grown in VA. Just one prominent example - Vegas Robaina is (has been, with a mere two formats left....) known for using wrapper leaf from the Robaina plantation (Cuchillas de Barbacoa, San Luis).

That's at least as far as published information goes. Like NSXCIGAR, I'd also be interested to hear about your source of information. Always keen to learn from people in the know.

As far as I am aware, they all are.

FD can make some excellent cigars. I will reiterate that the past 12 months has seen an uptick in quality. Of all the major factories however, I see more failures out of FD than any other.

The July 17 box of coloniales I picked up a couple weeks ago is RAG. However not ALL Trinidad are being rolled at FD. They were rolling Vigia at El Laguito last month. I know they were Vigia because I spotted the pigtails as we were walking through one of the rolling rooms. Behike! I exclaimed! The QC manager quickly corrected me with a shake of the head. "No. Vigia". The Vigia and BHK 52 are almost identical in dimensions, so it was an easy mistake to make.

Someone let us know if they are seeing UAO Trinidad. That will certainly confirm it.

SLE is certainly a FD code.  ARS and RAG I assumed to be the new 17/18 codes. I will take a look tomorrow at what the new mastercases of Trinidad are carrying.

Sad... I like Cuban Cohibas quite a bit, but I’m relatively new to Cuban cigars so what do I know. It’s an absolute inevitability that there will be a large group who sees them as overrated. There are lots who don’t understand why everyone loves OpusX or Padrons, seeing them as hype and cigars for suckers. To each his/her own.

I've been smoking on a box of Trinidad Vigias I got around Christmas and just about everyone I shared with has agreed its about the best damn cigar they've smoked. Not an expert by any means but the Vigias are a dream from start to finish.  I wish I had more of them

Smoke the vigias with a couple of years on them, they literally transform, I find in them that flavour profile I love so much in aged robusto extras.
