canadianbeaver Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 If any of you guys live there, we always like to meet up for a shmoke when we travel. And an incredible modern art festival too! CB and Mr CB
HarveyBoulevard Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 It should be a great weekend to be in Palm Springs. It will be a little bit cooler than normal but it still should be beautiful. It's only going to be in the high 70s and sunny and clear and 0% chance of rain :-). I live less than an hour away and ride my motorcycle there and back on the weekend quite often. I will be out of town this weekend otherwise I would gladly make the ride and meet you and the mister for a cigar. It's a great little town and I hope you have a great weekend. 1
PigFish Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 I have seen the palms, but if you find the springs, let me know! Enjoy your trip 'snowbirds.' -Ray 2
canadianbeaver Posted February 17, 2018 Author Posted February 17, 2018 We are here and the beer is yummy. 2
JamesKPolkEsq Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 If you have some free time, there is an awesome oasis in the area - Coachella Valley Preserve - with some beautiful natural lands and terrific light to moderate hiking! https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g32847-d156964-Reviews-Coachella_Valley_Preserve-Palm_Springs_Greater_Palm_Springs_California.html https://www.google.com/maps/place/Coachella+Valley+Preserve+-+Thousand+Palms+Oasis+Preserve/@33.8369299,-116.3122931,16z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x80dafb654c6576a9:0x91e486f8f5b5622b!8m2!3d33.8369299!4d-116.3096903 It's like a 25 minute drive from downtown Palm Springs. Awesome in the late afternoon - sunsets around here are spectacular with a view of San Jacinto. You can literally see the infamous San Andreas fault, or hike up it Oh yeah - the price: FREE! Speaking of San Jacinto, you could consider a ride up the tram (2.5 miles vertical climb) to the top. https://www.pstramway.com/ Happy Trails!

canadianbeaver Posted February 17, 2018 Author Posted February 17, 2018 Thank you for your posts! I do not hike. I drink and smoke, that’s about it, for recreation.

canadianbeaver Posted February 21, 2018 Author Posted February 21, 2018 Two incredible bourbons for me I tasted here. Hope I find the first one to bring home. Pretty sure I can get the second one there. Whoh that second one has a kick! CB 1

Pretty sure I can get the second one there. Whoh that second one has a kick! CB Stagg at nearly 130 Proof does have a bit of a kick in the juevos. Yummy spicy stuff though. Will be hard to find in the midwest. Hope you can find some there. Expect to pay in the $50-$75'ish range on the shelf. If higher than that, the local B&M is gouging. I'd also recommend you give Four Roses Single Barrel and Small Batch a try. 2

prodigy Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 I've never seen stagg on the shelf. If you do see any, buy all of it. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk
canadianbeaver Posted February 21, 2018 Author Posted February 21, 2018 Could not find either of the tastes bourbons. Bought two other beautiful bottles. Will shoot their photos and show them ASAP. We did learn a cool new thing at the store. The guy had this program on his phone called Distiller. Any bottle I asked about on the shelf? He looked it up and told me the current review score. I told him I was only interested in minimum score 92. CB
canadianbeaver Posted February 21, 2018 Author Posted February 21, 2018 These are them. Stock photos, sorry. They are down in the room and we are up at the pool. CB 1
prodigy Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 These are them. Stock photos, sorry. They are down in the room and we are up at the pool. CBWe have similar tastes. Let me know what batch number that knob Creek is if you don't mind. I went over board after trying batch 5, and I can honestly say batch 1 and 3 are not as good, but still worth the money. 25th anniversary is very good too. canadianbeaver Posted February 22, 2018 Author Posted February 22, 2018 Did not know there was quality difference between batches. Sounds just like cigars from different years. Good news! This is #2741, Batch 5 It is the middle of the night and I am up typing on my phone. I went and lit up the bottle to read the label! CB
Ethernut Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 @canadianbeaver nice choices. For comparison on the Knob Creek, pick up a bottle of 120 proof single barrel ( which will be less than half the price of the 2001 / anniv releases). It’s wicked good stuff, generally available and should be under 45 bucks. Definitely in my top five go to generally available Bourbons

CB A lot of that bourbon scoring, like wine and other things is wicked subjective. In the industry right now I’m seeing a ton of the demand for scarce items drive up perceived quality scores. Pappy Vanwinkle is a perfect example. If you were to take a taste test at my home of four different Bourbons you would never pick it in the top two. But alas it is hundreds to thousands of dollars a bottle because of the scarcity created by buffalo trace. I would also say that it’s I’m sure a good guide but let your palate be the ultimate decision-maker. 1

The comment I make in stores or bars that gets me the best rep is how I collect tons of the best bottles but my favorite has to be Eagle Rare. CB 1

I have a pappy 12 year I just won in the Virginia lottery and I'm debating trading or selling it to get other stuff. I have tried a different 12 year bottle, and I was blown away. Considering I paid retail it's not that much of a loss if I decide to drink it. Sorry for side railing the thread Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk 1
canadianbeaver Posted February 22, 2018 Author Posted February 22, 2018 This is now my favorite thread.
