This really just happened...

...thank goodness, it was the right person pushing the wrong button.... :surprised:

Good point, we should all be glad the retaliatory measure wasn’t taken. 10 more minutes maybe?

terrifying that we have come to a state where it is entirely possible to believe that it could have been real.

but i love the take cover bit. what? under the table? under the bed? in the garage?

Yep, I guess still the same proven, dead-certain measures we were taught in the 70s during 'good old' cold war times... Taking cover in the door case was also one of the sweet suggestions.... ah  and make sure you got water for a day or two... haha. :lol3:

Saw this earlier.  Wow is all I can say.  Can't imagine how scary this was.  Glad it was a false alarm is an understatement.

Really can't believe this could happen but then again, why am I surprised?

Smoke and drink well tonight to good health!

Not that it matters much, but in the interest of accuracy, I was just reminded that this is what the text actually stated:

"BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL."

Holy Hell.

This is where people lose their jobs. An apology doesn't cut it.

Well, an apology is exactly what they’re attempting.

Well, it wasnt.

True dat. For about the first 5 minutes of the official retraction, they tried saying it was only a “test”. That lie didn’t last long.

Hawaii Governer says they were trying to test the system and apparently on a shift change the new guy hit the wrong button. Why there would be shift change during ballistic missile defense readiness training is a bit beyond me.

"Oh shit nukes inbound I better warn people, Oh wait it's quitting time. Sorry my fellow Hawaiians you're on your own."

Here on Oahu, I received the alert with the funny tone on my phone just past 8am too. I however had the joy of hearing my concerned neighbour tapping on the window moments later in his underwear and beer gut yelling to close the windows!

No siren and no jets - they’ve been testing the sirens since Nov so I made coffee and sat outside for a few minutes. Eerily quiet it was, I guess a few people were panicking in retrospect but if the alert was true I really couldn’t think what one could do. I live on the other side of the island from Honolulu airport/Hickman and Pearl Harbour with a mountain range separating us so one would think we’d be pretty safe from a non nuclear missile. Who knows.

I actually smoked an El Principe and had more coffee whilst debating this. I just finished training in my new job yesterday so found it kind of ironic that after 4 months of training and it finally being over, this could be it.

Home Depot was quieter than normal mid morning though....

This hit the news here in the UK too Glad I read it here first!

Google home just read it to me. A quick search on Twitter and yup, it's all over there too.

I think the best idea if it did happen is light up your best smoke and enjoy it!

Phew!

Being the government...they will probably be promoted and given a raise.

The folks in charge will be looking for a scapegoat,  for sure.

When,  in reality,   the heads that should roll are the ones at the top who allowed a system to be in place where a mistake like this could happen,  without some check or confirmation.  "Bubba",  hitting the button at a shift change is farcical.

Whole story is SCARY,   in the event itself,  and as a statement as to where we are in the world at this time.
