Preferred Style of Cutter

Just curious to know what style of cutter most people like.   

I personally like using scissors, not for the aesthetics but because they are easy to clean.  I once had a piece of cigar get caught in a double blade cutter that I could not get out and they thing never worked smoothly again.

The one closest to me... 

..been known to use my finger nail to pull the cap off (or the ubiquitous teeth-tear maneuver) in a pinch.  The one I use the most is a $2 double blade ring cutter. Because it's cheap I never seem to lose it (haha) and does it's job like a champ -

Punch!

Cheap, can't be confiscated (come at me TSA) and I have yet to damage a cigar with one. 

Plus, it helps smoke more slowly.

Punch for most cigars.

 

Double blade for Piramides and Bellicosos.

I use an inexpensive punch for most cigars. Second place goes to my new(ish) Colibri V-cut. 

I did just buy a new Cuban Crafters double blade cutter due to their overwhelmingly good reputation here and elsewhere, but I haven’t used it much yet.

TSA stopped me and took me aside at the Honolulu airport this summer, after they found the punch cutter in my cigar kit. They asked me what it was, had me give them a demonstration on how it worked, and then (eventually) let me pass. I thought it was a goner.

Straight cut with Xikar usually. Sometimes I pull out the scissors.

Xikar.  It just works for me.  Stays closed when I need it to and stays open when I need it to.  One hand, bingo.

I prefer a punch or v cut, but they rarely work for Cubans. Palio 2 blade if those 2 fail.

Depends on circumstances. When abroad, a key ring punch to get through the airports. At home Xikar X8. Swiss Army Knife scissors, which are stupidly sharp, when camping/fishing as I know I'll be carrying it.

I've been using Xikar V cutters almost exclusively for a couple years now.  If it's not a V cut, I will go for a punch.

What are the benefits of a V cutter? I’ve heard a lot about them recently but I have never tried one. For me, it’s a Punch for almost every cigar and a guillotine for Pirámides.

I'm not sure how the V cut effects tar build up or anything like that.  I just prefer the feel of it and I rarely, if ever, get a poor cut with my Xikar.  If I do get a stick with a tight draw I just make a cross cut with the V and it has never let me down yet.  With smaller rg's, under 38 for example, I'll use a regular guillotine though.  Pick up a cheapo at your B&M and see how you like it.  Even a cheap one should be good for a number of cigars and it'll give you a feel for it at least.

Interesting. I’ll definitely try it. Might solve for times when a 50+ ring gauge burns a bit too slowly when I use my punch. I find myself relighting more than I like in those instances.

I used to be exclusively a Punch with the straight cut for figurados.  

Now I’m 99% V-cut (Colibri gives the deepest, cleanest cut) as it’s foolproof, razor sharp, and perfect every time, with the 1% being punch.

Try a V cut on a Piramides, it is my favorite way to cut that type of cigar.

Just started using a Colibri V cutter and like it thus far

I've always been a pretty straight away guillotine guy. I like the Xikar teardrops and the Palio, fixed/double guillotines in particular.

I've occasionally gone through phases where I will use a V-cutter sometimes. I actually have my eye on one of those Colibri deep V-cutters.

My first cigar cutter was a punch, but since then I have very rarely used them. Wouldn't mind having one around for cigars where the draw is a little excessively loose.
