rcarlson Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 As an experienced but hardly prolific CC purchaser, I have found that the best sticks I've had always had a great great aroma at cold. However, I can't say the I have found a difference in the aroma among marcas. The goodness always has the same aroma to me. And the construction has always accompanied the cold aroma. So how important is aroma at cold as an indicator of quality before resting/aging? Has anyone had an unpleasant or non-existent cold aroma with stock that proved to be really good nonetheless? 1
Wertman Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Wow great question I wish I had even one millionth or the knowledge. I have no clue. I have smelled some good cold aromas especially the partagas Luis I just got. But I have not tried them yet.
PapaDisco Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Yes, I've had a meaningful percentage (20-50%?) of 'flat' boxes at cold, that really woke up 6-12 months later. And of course the ones that were very rich to begin with at cold always smoked well. If those ever 'failed" it was to being on the harsh side, usually in the final third, but let them sit for 12 months or more and even that edge would come off. I'm perplexed at how something can scent as very flat, yet recover over time. There are plenty of flat boxes that are just that: flat, and flat forever; but the ones that recover are a mystery. Maybe it's that 'vacuum' thing? 1
