gweilgi
This may be of interest to some .... Several countries list tobacco tax and retail price (per cigar and per box) on their tax/excise stickers. I am not sure which countries this applies to other than Germany and Belgium, but merchants in those countries have to sell their cigars at the prices stated. So when prices or taxes go up, they continue to sell the old stock at the old prices. I have just rung my friendly Casa in Germany and placed an order for a couple of boxes of CoRo....
losttrailer
But those are still quite expensive, aren't they ? Except you found some really old boxes, pre 2008 or older which are nearly impossible to find ( at least online ). EDIT : Just saw where youre from ;-) Edited June 20, 2017 by losttrailer

Hmm...so at what point can prices be raised for vintage premiums? Surely the retailers aren't locked in to any price. Seems a bit odd to me... Seems a bit odd to me...Yes, they're locked in. Once the cigars are taxed, the price cannot be changed. That's the law in Germany. Retailers are also not allowed to give more than 3% discount and are also not allowed to throw in free cigars. If they do it, they can get in serious trouble.
LordAnubis
Exactly why Andorra was once a treasure trove. All tapped out now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
TheMonk
It works that way here in Portugal. The price goes on the stamp when it leaves the Customs warehouse, and they can't sell it at a different price. They can however only ask the release from the Customs warehouse later on, when stocks in shops start running low, which means applying the current year's price. Was debating weather to head up there in OCT.

I was there in November and it's pretty tapped out. The only find I had was the last box of SLR Londsdales for €135, if memory serves me correctly. It's worth a trip if you're chasing regionals, which wasn't the purpose of my trip. The Cohiba boxes were 16 box codes. To make matters worse, you can only legally bring back 3 boxes into Spain/France per person.

I knew about the limit, but you can go in and out, well at least when I went you could. Sucks most of the old stock is dried up now. I picked up a few of the reserve collections when I went I would imagine they are still easy to find there as with the regionals like you said. Makes my idea of a trip a little easier then. I pickup most of my stuff from Rob or when I'm in Dubai.
