It just crossed my mind yesterday as I was struggling with another blunt cutter.

I don't want to take my Palio with me when I travel. Being the idiot I am....I will leave it in my carryon bag and it will be snagged.

Are you aware of a good quality cutter at a reasonable price where you can sharpen the blades yourself?

A "V" cut with a nice sharp filet knife will get the job done, and give you Ken's fish flavored cigars to boot.

Seriously, I "V" cut with a sharp knife frequently.

Then there's the "Winston Churchill" method - take a wooden match, and use it to bore a hole in the end.

I have two of the original (Xi?) Xikars.  When one seems to get dull I ship it back and they replace it.  Use the other while that is going on.   My punch I sharpen with a knife sharpening steel.  Worst case (no cutter) I will soak the cap (yeah, with spit) in my mouth and it will usually come right off after a few minutes.

Not a cutter, but a sharpenable punch.    I use spent brass from handgun ammo.

A quick turn of a deburring tool restores the edge to razor sharp condition.

30 carbine, 38 spl, and 44mag gives me a good variety of sizes.

This is literally a brilliant idea.  I've got plenty of .357 and .223 for the skinnies.

no, silly - a cigar cutter.

Might take off a bit more than you wanted if you use a cigar cutter to sharpen your nails.

I dont use a cutter for my cigars but I've seen some reviews for the Cuban Crafters Perfect Cutter and apparently they last for a very long time.

Probably you want to have a look?

I'd second this cutter. I use this and my Palio regularly and do not see a huge difference in the quality of the cut; however this cutter is only really good for parejos.

The Cuban Crafters Perfect Cutter is excellent all around and it gets a life time warrantry too. Its my 'general use' cutter. I've had this one for years and its still going strong. The only exception is a Colibri V-cutter I've started trying out on figurado's.

Well, my Zino cigar cutter is advertised at being self-sharpening. When I read the title of this post I was mildly taken aback.  Since learning how to do anything with me is always trial and error - LOTS of error...I surmised that after my spliced and bleeding fingers heal up after trying to sharpen it myself, I'd be somewhat impressed at the "convenience"...  ?
