Buying cigars in the Dominican republc

A friend of mine is going to the DR Pinta Cana next week. Does anyone know of a good store to buy authentic CCs from? Word is that the place is loaded with fakes

Theres a recent thread on the forum.  Search for it.   Seems its best not to buy CCs there because there are none. No real ones anyway...  It was a thread from this Spring, so, recent.

I went for my honeymoon and saw alot of fakes. The resort even had a guy come in to roll customs and he was selling the "famous" glass top case of Cohiba's. I don't know of an LCDH near there but I did land some nice La Aurora and another local brand that I can't remember off the top of my head. I wouldn't recommend buying any Cubans but they have good local smokes.

From what I understand there aren't many places selling legit CCs and there are a tremendous amount of fakes there, naturally. Also, many of the cigar shops are going to be hawking their own Dominican products so the selection of CCs may be rather limited. Here's a few relevant threads:

    I don't think I've EVER seen where there are official Habanos sales stores in the Dominican Republic, most probably because of those islands being direct competitors cigar sales-wise. And as everybody has said, the fakes there though, abound!

I thought it was illegal to sell CC in DR?  Or it was at one point.  Another question is why bother buying CC's in DR?  That's like buying CA Cab wine in France...

There used to be a cigarshop in the plaza of Playa Dorado Resort.It had(has) a walk in humidor.They also sold legit CC's at horrendous prices.At one point that plaza also had a LCdH store but was only open for one year(it took them also one year to build it)Haven't been down there in a few years so I don't know if it still exists

Not worried at all.  I cant find that thread myself, but I know it was recent.  It's peobably one of the ones @NSXCIGAR linked already.
