kuma Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 I'm no expert on these servers but from what I have read in some hacking mag.'s (comes out every two months) your internet info (traffic) ends up going through these file servers which act sort of a gateway to the WWW. You can't get from here to there without going through these gate keepers which are based all over the world. From the states to Europe you have underwater fiber optic cables going back and worth with data. Same as from Asia to the states in the Pacific Ocean. Also I'm sure there are fiber optic cables from Oz to Japan / China which send data back and worth from Japan / China to the states. DNS servers route this data from states to Europe and on and on and on. These DNS servers are very old and the safe guards used is from the 1970's. These DNS servers are a hackers delight. Very easy to access the info (hack) the data traffic. The evil hackers are one step ahead of the patches that come out after the fact. By the time the hacking is detected the evil hackers have moved on and found another method of doing hijacking the data. Big problem with these servers. Again I'm no expert on this but it is out there for all to read and learn. Not all hackers are evil some help to track down these people who are causing us harm in more ways than one. There are some crazy stories out there. Like the one where a writer dared a hacker to hack his brand new auto, When the stupid writer was driving on the freeway (cali.) the hacker started to mess with his transmission, slow down, speed up, turn the radio on / off and even turn the engin off before the writer begged the hacker to stop via cell phone. Everyone is aware that new devices have micro chips in them and that goes for weapons, large / small, etc, etc...Well with all the night vision abilities, range finding, and other add on features done for you doing all this the manual way is not needed anymore, the chip in these weapon does it for you. Well one day a weapons expert wanted to be shown how his new small arms weapon could be hacked which he did not think it possible. Well before you could say "whats the pass word" while he was attempting to range find his target and then fire the gun stopped working, shut down. Once he was back on line again target sighted the shot he fired missed the target by 10 feet to his right. Each time he atempted to correct his situation his shot got the same results. Again this info is out there for all to read and learn and "fore warned is fore armed". Cao mates!
canadianbeaver Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 How bout those Blue Jays? They are really comin' along now, especially getting better at DH and hr. CB 2
kuma Posted May 16, 2017 Author Posted May 16, 2017 Yes, Yes DNS my bad ( typo) thanks. You get the gist of what I'm attempting to say? 1
PatrickEwing Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 How did you subscribe to bimonthly published hacker magazines? Seems to violate their ethos on any number of fronts. Cat Fancy tis not.
LordAnubis Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 So long story short if anyone doesn't know what a DNS is... www.google.com does not exist... open up your web browser and type in: 216.58.213.132 Where does it go? Instead of you having to remember that number sequence, a DNS allows you to assign a name and direct you to that IP address. If you hack the DNS server you can then redirect everyone trying to go to google.com to a location with a different IP. There are multiple DNS servers you can use... most ISP set their own. Google has their own that anyone can use. 1
Elvis Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Good explanation of DNS (Domain Name Server). The Internet uses numeric addresses which aren't very user friendly. DNS resolves names (e.g. google.com) to numbers (IP addresses. A gateway is a different thing altogether. For the interested reader: http://thehackernews.com/2017/05/wannacry-ransomware-cyber-attack.html Patching the OS (Operating System) is done by applying OS updates. These updates can fix security vulnerabilities in the code as well other bugs. It is essential to keep your system updates current. Hope this helps.
Head83 Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Soooo are you telling me the internet can be used for something other than buying cigars and searching for porn? Who knew!? ?

Elvis Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 I meant to say that failing to keep your systems properly patched increases your risk during a DOC (Denial of Cigars) or DOP (Denial of Porn) attack.
