I was smoking my PSD4 today, it was disappointing. Needs more time (I hope that's the issue). I got to thinking though. If I could pick my flavors...and have a roller make that exact experience what would it be?

So...I am your roller/bunchero. I hand you a flavor wheel...what would you tell me?

I would ask for a mellow smoke. Little ligero..like a smidge. Start with a baking spice/gingerbread/clove hit..then move into a musty/mushroom/barnyard undertone. May sound strange but tastes good to me. As for vitola...lonsdale.

Which is the other side of this...everyone's different preferences in flavor.

Actually, your description matches my ideal pretty damn well!

I love the baking spice profile I get from some Quai d'Orsay, and that musty, peaty flavor that I find in Trinidads.

If I could ger both in a lonsdale, I'd be buying another cabinet humi.

Heavy earth, slight woodiness, dried fruit/raisin. IOW, old Bolivar. :D

Can I also just point out that one of the flavors on this chart is "rancid"? I'd say this is more of a state of being than a flavor, or should I say, a state of having been...ugh.

I have actually pondered what kind of blend I could or would create given access to all the tobacco used for specific cigars and blends. Just working with the flavors found in the marcas that already exist.

I'm someone who tends to think that much of the blends and profiles that exist are a result of extensive trial and error already. IOW, many combos have been tried and the profiles that exist do so for a reason. Sure, you could blend the cherry of RyJ with the saltiness of Sancho Panza, but was it already tried and was it awful? How about the RyJ cherry and HdM cream? Hey--that sounds pretty good!

I would love to be able to access the raw tobacco knowing what farms and what fields produced what flavors for what marcas, but I'm afraid that's nothing but a distant pipe dream. I wonder how many individuals actually know this information. Anyway, how great would it be to be able to go to Cuba, procure the raw materials and experiment with blends like the old days?

In answering my question, I'm not really sure what my ideal dream profile is since there would need to be extensive experimentation. What looks good on paper or in our minds may not translate to a good cigar when combined together.

I would basically have the 898 blend but,  but alter the controls a little by turning the roasted red pepper down 20% and turn up the musty forest floor up 20% and give it a tiny bit of leathery sweetness.

Whether I would of just destroyed a beautiful thing, or improved it slightly would be interesting. It's a bit like suggesting Eva Mendes have just a little plastic surgery......99.9999% just you'd ruin something wonderful

for me it would be a mixture of the Roasted and vegetal flavours from the flavor wheel. something that has that creamy coffee underlying with with floral\citrus and caramel flavors on top! or i'd be happy just smoking the cohiba 1966 blend forever!

Top half of both roasted and spicy.  Coffee Carmel sweet baking spices (cinnamon allspice nutmeg) are my favorite in a cigar and in life. Cannot resist things like coffee cake, rum cakes, coffee etc.

This is such an interesting question. While I don't think my flavor profile would be something everyone would smoke I would love a cigar that had black cherry, vanilla, touch if milk chocolate, and some nice smooth coffee, the taste I get only from Nitro coffee. I had a LFD La Nox that the first third was like this, with a very oily mouth coating. It was amazing.

Ever tried a Punch DC? Not much coffee or milk in my experience, but it has a remarkably precise black cherry and vanilla profile. It's one of my favorites!
