bman75 Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 After a couple of months of rest, I broke into my LCG MdO4's this past week. I'm getting close to two hours of full-flavored enjoyment by slow-sipping them, like smoking Virginia flake tobacco out of a pipe. Draw is great - just a touch on the tighter side. They are bit wetter than I like at the moment (65% @ 67F), which I'm sure contributed to the long smoke time. Even so, I'm just amazed at how I'm getting a Churchill amount of time in a cigar that weighs less than a Perla. Anyone else with the same experience?
rhcolbert Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 Not 2 hrs but they seemed to last. Enjoy them, what a fantastic cigar.
zeedubbya Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 If you smoke them right it's a long smoke. I don't get 2 hrs, but I applaud you for doing so! Absolutely the best way to enjoy a skinny. Only in last year from being on here have I started to appreciate what a drier cigar and slowing way way down can do. Thanks to FOH for that! One of the biggest lessons I've learned here. 1
bman75 Posted March 15, 2017 Author Posted March 15, 2017 The one I had tonight went a full two hours and two minutes. I nubbed it to nothing, but that's still just ridiculous. I'll need to get these drier because that's sign that I'm smoking them too wet. But damn, the few I have had so far have been super tasty regardless. My new favorite smoke. I avoided them for too long because I thought 32 rg would be too skinny.
Notsocleaver Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 Not quite two hours, but 1:30+ for me easily. Ive found that smoke time in my cigars is way more a function of length over any other factor. The MdO#4 weights less than a Monte #5 and smokes for nearly as long as a Monte #2. Thats a heck of a value in my book.
LandCruiser Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 I get about 1.5 out of them at 62% .... the lower humid seems to do these sticks wonders... really opens up the sweetness and flowery notes... absolutely sublime. In fact, I have come to enjoy them more than the Md02s
Fugu Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 Yes, when properly rolled (and most are) it can be a surprisingly long smoke. Always an easy 85 min for me. Slow smoker, but not much of a 'nubber' here. As @Notsocleaver states, smoke duration is more a function of length than of gauge, as you would usually adjust your smoking technique. And I like it so much with these, not needing to take double or triple draws (as in the volado rolls) before I taste something... I said it before - for me, one of the best cigars coming out of Cuba right now.
bman75 Posted March 15, 2017 Author Posted March 15, 2017 Is it possible that this could be a 100% seco cigar? With the 32 rg, not sure how they could get any ligero in there and it doesn't have a ton of body. With such a small rg, I'm thinking burn properties would be fine without any volado.

It takes me even longer to smoke a Médaille d'Or No.3, which is longer but even thinner. Long panatelas are meant to be tasted slowly, they're not supposed to inebriate you with smoke like a robusto would…
finecigar Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 Yes! I have found that that I spend at least 90 minutes with the No. 4s. They are delicious.

The ETP boxes from last year have been solid and worth snagging another whenever they show on 24:24. I have a box from 02 that's tempting a recall from the OLH, never had one with that type of age on it. Good value but not quite PLMC value (within comparable sizes), although when young, I much prefer the #4.
BrightonCorgi Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 If you are digging the No. 4's, pick up some Culebras!
