This looks like good news!

Great article, thanks for posting. This crop is so good not even the state can manipulate the facts. The weather was absolutely perfect and record hectares were planted. Exciting news for all of us that love Cuban cigars. Very excited for the next few years. We should be looking forward to some great cigars--possibly the best since the late 90s.

One can only hope.

Just what the doctor ordered

Hopefully no quibbles over quality and the Farmers get paid quickly and the right coin. That will lead to more hectares planted in October 17.

I wouldn't see them commencing utilizing this crop prior:

Wrapper 2018

Seco 2019

Ligero 2020

Wrapper 2018

I would imagine they have plenty of Cohiba filler and binder ready and waiting for this wrapper? That is, if the Cohiba shortage is indeed due to the claimed wrapper shortage...

This is what we have been waiting for.. Hopefully translates to not only quality production, but quantity as well, followed with a bit of luck, lower prices.

Here's hoping anyway :2thumbs:

Take the first article as a whole with a grain of salt. The last paragraph had me cracking up. No wonder HSA named him "Man of the Year" They've got it made, free advertising, unlike all the NC brands that pay to keep the magazine in print.

Poor journalistic practice aside. The really good news is that beyond the large quantity of leaf harvested this year, the quality appears to be extremely high as well. Hopefully they can make room amongst all the bales of ageing binder and filler leaf to process and store everything. The numbers, as usual, are a bit murky, but everybody seems to be in agreeance that its was a huge year. More hectares planted, more harvested, and very good quality to boot.

The second article, although from Granma, is great. Look at the size of the Wrapper Leaves!! You could wrap 2 Monte A's with each! Central Planning at its best: "Of the 1,925 tobacco growers in San Juan y Martínez, only 267 work with shade-grown varieties of wrapper leaves for exported cigars" Not even 14 percent of the total farmers attempt to grow wrapper. Gee, I wonder why they're running short. It does state that they planted about 4,400 hectares for a "second harvest" which they are completing right now. The soil may be a bit tired, going back to back like that, but make hay while the sun shines right?

I'm curious to see the effect on taste of the wider (200 hectares) planting of Corojo 2012, particularly what cigars they are used in.

I would love to know what cigars end up getting this leaf. It will most likely be tough info to get, if not impossible. The leaf wont be used until late 2018 early 2019, its easy for a couple dozen pilones to get "lost in the shuffle" in the dozens of storage and processing facilities across the island. It will be a real task for the blender/s to get a good feel for the flavors and aromas of the leaf, then seamlessly combine it into existing blends. I wonder if they have something else planned for these first few harvests worth?

"Gran Reservas, Edición Limitadas, or the Añejado series ... may be the best value for quality purchases on the market."

That is one of the most, um ... extraordinary (?) statements I've seen in quite some time. And I've read US political news over the past 6 months.
