TheMonk Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Nice, thanks for sharing! Interesting to see the Dalai Lama with a Patek Philippe... wonder if it's actually his, from the picture it just looks like he's showing it to someone.

Warren Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 The Dali Lama was gifted the Patek in 1943 by the then President of the US Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He did not receive it personally from FDR but two agents were sent to present the gift to him. One of those agents had the name Ilia Tolstoy, grandson of Leo Tolstoy. At the time he received it he was about 7 years old. The watch has been repaired several times since then and it's value as estimated by Christies is between $150,000 to $250,000. A similar but rarer version of this watch that had a black dial recently sold for $527,000. Only about 15 of these watches were ever made, the last one some time in the 1950's The Dali Lama is also known to own a few Rolex and Omega and is often criticized for having them. People think he should sell them and give the money to charity but I'll bet they wouldn't if the shoe was on the other foot.
Warren Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 OOps I see that Smokey Steve had already posted a link.

Frozen North Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 Justin Trudeau doesn't deserve to be on this list. 1

rckymtn22 Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 Lots of the people shouldn't be on this list as they are not leaders or current. Just enjoy it. 2
