Doesn't it just absolutely suck when you have to explain a joke? :P

even worse when you have to explain it is a joke.

told my fave joke at an event in helsinki 18 months ago (we all had to get up and tell a joke). hardly got a ripple from the 20 or so people. not a smirk. german bloke (he was a good guy) did not flinch. not a twitch. then came up to me later and said that it was the funniest joke he had ever heard. i said 'but you didn't even smile'. he looked at me like i was an idiot and said, 'but it was the funniest joke'.

then after about five minutes, a guy from brazil suddenly fell off his chair. i mean literally fell off his chair. there was all sorts of kerfuffle. we all thought he was having a stroke or something. what is wrong, we rushed over. 'i just got it'.

clearly, robin williams i am not.

I actually went to a German comedy club many years ago when I was going out with a German girl. I didn't speak German and she'd told the club I was in and each comedian did a joke in English just for me. Don't remember any of them...
