hughness Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 Just got a hand on a box of behike52. How long should I lay them down before popping one? I mean it as what would be golden number of years given this is dated 2016. I know they do use aged leaves but still seeking experts advices! Tks! Box code AMO JUL 16Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
MrGlass Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 The normal advise is to give them 30-60 days to acclimatise your humidor. Then you should be good to try one and make the decision on how quickly you'll go through the rest from there. Enjoy them!

I've meant for aging sake - any good ranges of years? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sunsmoke Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 Mate I already told you! We can crack them open tomorrow with @Joshtupps ??? 3
PapaDisco Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 They're probably tasty now, but lay them down for 5 years, sampling as you go.
Joshtupps Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 @hughness myself and @Sunsmoke sampled my AGO 11 box the other day, general consensus was they could do with some more time. 1

That's a much harder question to answer, and I'm far from an expert . IMHO, the best approach to take is to try one each year so you can see how they are and track how they are developing. That way you can make an educated decision on when they are at their peak. With the Behike's, I have only smoked a single of each of the three sizes back in 2011, and each one of those was under a year old. The 52 was the best performer of the three and definitely smokeable at that age, although from memory it was a little temperamental and needed to be taken at a very gentle pace. 1

Mate, no one will be able to give you an answer to that. They are in the market in their 6th year now. Perhaps they reach their sweet spot only with a decade of age, perhaps sooner, perhaps later, who really knows? Also depending on storage conditions and the OR might still be different from '16 production.... There is no other way finding out than trying for yourself, as this is almost certainly also a matter of personal preference. I'd start off with the approach of MrGlass and Sunsmoke... Enjoy! 1

s1911 Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 I would try one as soon as they acclimate and revisit them in a few years (over 3) I just had a 56 from the original 2011 release and it was a lot better than 5 years ago but still not great. It seems that most people aren't thrilled with the Behike 56's in general but I have a feeling in a few years they'll be pretty damn good! Still I don't chase the Behike's anymore as there are a lot better regular production cigars out there for far less $$. 1
GrouchoMarx Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 I have a box of '13s. Going to have one every Christmas, with a glass of champagne. Of course, I'd be willing to "test-smoke" a few of your I you like. 1

My AGO '13 56's were the only newly received cigars that I noticed the ammonia smell on! Probably just one green cigar in the lot, but surprising for something rolled with aged tobacco. I sampled in 2014, was impressed, but not enough to touch the sticks since. I'm letting mine go another 2 years before trying again. 1
canadianbeaver Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 For what you might have paid, brother, I might smoke one per year for 10 years 2

Orion21 Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 I loved my OR BHK 52's but boxes of ten goes fast. Back in the day if I had know they were going to be as good as they were I would have bought as many boxes as I could, especially since the current production are really nothing that special compared to the OR's. At today's prices I would stock up on CoRo. The BHK is nice in theory, but cigars are supposed to be smoked. You may not be alive a year from now so this whole idea of sampling 1 cigar a year is just hogwash. If you enjoy the first, then smoke another when you feel like it. If they seem young, then lay them down. 2

Given I have only 10 and they are so young I would be asking too much for test smoke Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
