I like huntsmen.

They may be big and scary-looking, but they do help to keep down the cockroaches (and mice).  Anything that kills pests without being a threat to me or mine is just fine and dandy...

Plus, it's funny as hell to see overseas visitors freaking out....

Its just evolution in Oz, a product of the heat, the beer and nothing on TV.

The next generation of spiders will have tails, or fur, or both. Try catching them then.

guys, it is just a huntsman. not as though it is one of our serious spiders. as i have posted before, there is always one in the letterbox (the big old mama - she'd regularly give birth and guard the next in the letterbox quite fiercely and then all of a sudden, i'd have a 100 huntsmen (plural?) in the letterbox, though newborns are minute - has given way to a new and smaller one. perhaps one of her daughters did her in). we are hardly talking shelob.

i used to have one in my bathroom - years ago and different house - which i called jimmy connors. not much smaller than my hand. it would give you a shock if it ran up your arm when you stepped out of the shower starkers and grabbed a towel.

*That scene made me think of my mom who was terrified (I guess like most women) of little whiskered cheese stealers.  I wonder if she would have been more affrighted at the size of that spider - or been relieved that God must have sent the spider to take the little mouse away. If it didn't mean hijacking the threads here with so much space, I could give you some hilarious stories of my mom's antics when or if little cheese stealing critters freaked her out across the kitchen floor! You would have experienced a human being truly defying every law of time, space and gravity!!!  :surprised:   :rotfl:
