Danimalia Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Interesting stuff. I don't mind a box press. Maybe because I'm coming from NCs and some of my favorite NCs are manufactured with varying degrees of box-pressing. 1

Expand That's been happening for as long as ribbons have been used. I must admit, however, that I actually love smoking the deformed cigars! 3

According to Cigar Advisor, "Originating in Cuba, this was done to save shipping space. As a result, the process causes the cigars to burn longer and with a more consistent flavor, giving the smoker a more enjoyable smoke."
rickthecabbie Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 I have to admit that I am of two minds on this subject. I love the artwork on the dress boxes, but I also love the Cab' for the utility when empty. I have a plan to cover an entire wall of my new home CoRo sized boxes to hold and display my coffee mug collection. Yeah, I'm a bit bonkers. As for holding cigars, if I am buying from a questionable vendor, I have learned not to buy dress boxes because if they are not properly stored, the corners of the lid can lift, risking exposure to ambient air, and whatever, whereas the slide lid box will generally stay closed. 1

Expand I love the artwork. The old school embossing is something you just don't see anywhere else. Being so new to CC the fact of dress box or slb does not effect my purchase decision. I'm my mind though, and it may just be me, a dress box is for opening, grab a stick and move on. The slb is a storage box. 1
JZBdano Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 My preference is the SLB, especially cabs of 50 although I don't mind the slight box press from dress boxes. Most of my purchases gravitate to what will age well because it may be years before I get around to smoking them.

Wasn't sure if this somehow altered air circulation in the box Expand Lol I can't get them back in the box right with the ribbon on either. I even end up having to take out a stick to get the slt top back on.
Mattb82 Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 ^^same here. I take one out and put it in my singles drawer. I just thought I was challenged. Good to know someone else is too
dowjr1 Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I always want my stogie a resting on wood and not inked paper. SLBs do make storage a little more challenging though.
