Ken Gargett
just heard the terribly sad news that we have lost one of the great characters of aussie sport, max walker. wonderful fast bowler (and also a top notch aussie rules player, architect, author, broadcaster, public speaker). probably never got his just recognition as he was often third string to lillee and thommo. was always considered to be a real gentleman, a genuine role model. doubt we'll ever see his like again. such a sad loss.

Bill Hayes
Very sad to lose one of the greats. As a kid he gave me one of my fondest memories of cricket. Went to the World Series Cricket test at AFL Park Waverley to see the Aussies v The Windies. Max was in an Aeroguard commercial and a red headed kid says, "Have a good weekend Mr Walker" and he replies, "You too son". So being a red headed kid I shouted the line from the commercial when came down to fine leg and he turned around, smiled and gave me the thumbs up and the crowd around us loved it. He was larger than life Max.
Ken Gargett
always had time for kids. so far removed from the privileged arrogant self-important tossers that infest the teams today.
Fuzz
Awww geez. Cricket will never be the same for me. I was too young to see him play, but watched him and Richie commentate the cricket on Wide World of Sports.

Smoke6
Truly a sad week. Hopefully it ends and we don't lose another icon. The world is much emptier and somewhat lonesome without their presence. True gentlemen transcend their profession and show the rest of us what is possible with a little humility, generosity and a love for life.
marty922
I was pretty shocked to hear this... he was only 68. Have been reading some great words about him in The Age.. but his own words described his bowling action perfectly Quote He bowled hooping inswing, sent down "right-arm over left earhole, legs crossed at the point of delivery" I remember trying to imitate the action once or twice as a kid - something akin to trying perform the butterfly stroke whilst trying to bowl.. not a good look, and usually resulted in a delivery so wide, it should've counted as 2 byes. I grew up with the Aeroguard ad "aveagoodweekend Mr. Walker" and his commentary on the cricket. RIP Tangles
