zeedubbya
I keep notes on most all cigars I smoke unless they're daily smokes. This one I felt compelled to put a review up because of how interesting the experience was, and the fact that I see a lot of threads of people asking what Johnny Os are like. I did my best to describe exactly what I was experiencing. I admit to not having the most refined palate (or brain), but maybe this will give someone a better idea of what these offer and whether you may like it or not. Aroma at cold--Muskiness, earthy, barnyard--like an old barn. Great smell. Feel--firm with a little give--perfectly rolled. Cold draw--nothing like the smell strangely enough taste is straight fresh tobacco--reminds me of that sweet tobacco smell when you first open a bag of chewing tobacco. A little richer taste than this maybe. Lit at 11:18 with an FOH lighter--best lighter I own! 1st Third- Cream right from the start, Hoyo cream, surprised to get this. Very mild start. Had to clip a bit more off. Still very fresh cigar. Is slightly damp. Great taste and aroma. Toasted tobacco and cream to start. Cigar has a sweet fringe. Cream with a nice sweetness. Burn is decent. Again seems like it needs dried out some more, not unexpected from a custom roll. Just below medium strength--typical Churchill strength. There is a touch of chocolate in there as well. Cigar is very damp. Should have dry boxed it. Can just tell moisture content is kind of high but this isn't making it unenjoyable. 2nd Third Body seems to have taken a small step back--playing on upper end of mild. Decide to take another clip see if I can get a little more smoke output maybe get more flavors. Volume of smoke good now. Don't have a lot of experience on clipping these dropped head cigars. Somewhat short finish but this isn't a negative. Leaves a pleasant taste in my mouth. Enjoying the cream, pure tobacco and sweet character quite a lot. Aroma is very pleasant. Everything is very right about this cigar, it's just a bit damp. Leaves a sweet tobacco taste behind which is very nice. The cream taste is very prevelant through the nose. Very smooth--I can imagine this being an extremely nice smoke in a years time. Smoke has that creamy character I would say is like marshmallows. Best way I can describe it. Like a toasted marshmallow. If the chocolate comes back around this could be the s'mores cigar! Oh wait graham cracker is needed for that. Not getting any graham cracker! Final Third Surprising little nicotine buzz just hit. Not the bad kind where you feel awful, but that kind of relaxing sleepy kind. Fair amount to go though so we shall see how it goes. My nic tolerance is fairly high I believe, but this cigar just snuck up and took a swing at me! Ash has dropped off after about an inch each time. Near perfect construction. Maybe just a bit tight but i think it's more due to the moisture content than the construction. Getting kind of charry but it's not a bad thing with the sweetness and the cream. Body is below medium but strength has now ramped up to medium full. Wouldn't give this cigar to a newbie. A decent amount of mintiness and charred taste is the norm in the last 3rd. Not unpleasant, just quite different. There's a taste there I can't quite place--palate (or brain) not refined enough to figure it out. Best I can describe it as an almost sour molasses taste. If anyone has any input on what this may be I would love to hear suggestions. It's a nice flavor just not sure how to describe it. Final Thoughts: Overall this has been a very nice smoke--the cream/marshmallow and the sweet tobacco taste were very nice. The small not unpleasant nicotine buzz. Splash of chocolate here and there. Really wish I would've dry boxed this cigar for a week. Next one I have I will. Pretty much razor sharp burn, concise light gray ashes. Ended at 1:09. So a good 1 hour and 40 minutes of enjoyment. Smokes way way above its price point. Can't wait to see how these mature.

Bob M
Hey I'm BobM, I've heard good things bout the JO's cigars, so I ordered up a sampler pack. And it's coming my way in a few days, I'm wondering if these stogies are go to puff ROTT or do you have to put them to sleep for a period of time? What are the best practices for these stogies. I appetite any input someone might have. Thxs Bob
earthson
If you catch them quick enough, they're good for several months when fresh. Afterwards, I'd recommend 2-3 years of age. You'll know if they enter a sick period - they're hard to finish when they do. I find this is true for pretty much any unaged customs I've bought. I second this--it seems about 3-4 months when fresh and sick for about a year and then they get better from there with 2-3 years being a good target. I admittedly don't have a ton of experience in this area, but this seems to be consistent with what I've experienced and been told.

JohnnyO
Dry boxing would have helped immensely, I think one week might be overkill. Depending how wet it is and your RH% in your home/office a day or two should do it. Rob discussed this with some freezer/fridge techniques in a recent thread. John I will dry box one next week for a couple days and do an updated review on here. See how things change. Should be an interesting experiment. Thanks for chiming in. Really enjoyable cigar John. topdiesel
Smoking a Pigtail Coronas Extra right now with nearly 2 years on it from a bundle split with Garbandz. I tried one when they were fresh and it was insanely good. They were like smoking a Reese's penut butter cup. They have changed and are still really good. 1/3 started out with a creamy sweet tobacco with a nice firm draw just how I like it. 2/3 developed into a dark roasted coffee and evolved into coffee with a little spice. Plenty of smoke output with a really long finish. Retrohale is smooth as silk and slightly floral. Final 3rd is showing it's youth with a little bite and tons of tasty spice. I have tried several of John's vitolas and the Corona Extra is my favorite. Makes sense since it is my favorite vitola for all cigars. Some of the larger vitolas I have had have a slightly looser draw and I prefer a firmer draw. If you pick up some johnny-o cigars and enjoy corona vitolas, then have in throw in a fiver of coronas extra if he has them. Thanks for another fantastic smoke John.
