Your favourite pieces/examples of Cigar Art?

I always get blown away by cigar art be it modern or vintage. 

I could look at the  El Rey Del Mundo logo for an hour.  What was the designer smoking? Brilliant!  Who else comes up with a charriot being drawn by 5 animals from around the world. Mind you I am not happy that Oceania is being pulled by a "goat'

El Rey Del Mundo = King of the World.  Check out prince charming. Given the feathers I am assuming a native. Given the skin colour I am assuming an albino.

Mel Ramos - Hav-a-Havana #2 (1998)

Mel Ramos was part of the 60's pop-art scene and is still working today in his eighties. The Havana series is one of his enduring sets, which he's added to over the years, totalling over a dozen pieces. His style is photorealistic, juxtaposing everyday objects with semi-naked idealised women mainly (but he also plays with superhero imagery and other cultural memes). I'd love to own an original lithograph, but they're few and far between and cost almost as much as a Cohiba 50th humidor.

#2 is probably the least provocative pose in the series, others having naked women draped over oversized cigars like the bikini models on fifties autos. As well as cigars, his models (he actually used his wife, Leta, mostly back in the day) are painted with giant chocolate bars, spark plugs, hot dog buns, and all manner of everyday branded popular products.

I love the humour in his work, which some people just don't seem to get. ?

This stretches the definition a wee bit, Pres, but I've always considered it a great piece of cigar art, despite the fact there's no cigar in the pic!

This is likely a stretch as well, but artistic none the less.  Spent my life around drums and drumming, and the coolest recover I've seen is still this kit done by a fellow in Connecticut.  I'd seen it at the Deep River fife and drum corps muster (Hey!  That's coming up again next weekend!!) but had a great look at the Chicago Drum Show in 2015.

 

As far as cigar bands go I've always liked the San Cristobal with the parrot on it.  Not too big.  Not too gaudy...  Just about right IMO

There is a print of one of the Ramos paintings that hangs in one of the restrooms of the Citizen Hotel in Downtown Sacramento. It was stolen once during a wedding and upon it's return the hotel was rather gracious with regards to letting the drunken fool off with a vigorous apology.

On an ornate level I would say my favorite cigar art is the custom humidors that are made each year for Habanos festivals and on a more refined note the framed Cohiba labels that were given away at the festival this year. The black frame with the black &yellow bands really has an understated elegance to it.

Got this print signed by the artist. He lives here in Houston and enjoys cigars as well. Two of my favorite things to do smoke cigars and play dominoes.

Like you Rob, I am a fan of the ERdM box art.

Otherwise, the cigar is an art form itself. Holding cigar in my hand, or selecting it from a humidor represents the epitome of cigar art as I see it. Cigars in pictures, friends and in formal artwork have the same weight. Looking at some of our cigar photo threads sums my feelings as cigars "as" art, very well. -Piggy
