Ok, It's a stupid name.  And i was stupid to pick it up in Dubai with so many other options. Granted, I'm very new at this. But the 10 box was cheap and i actually like RyJ Churchill. The wife didn't want me to drop $600 on a cab of Party Lucies.

I am having so many burn problems with this cigar.  Canoeing and some tunneling. Could it just be the crazy big gauge? And the taste leaves something to be desired.

What is your experience with this particular stick? Will it improve with age?

Thanks.

My last 10 box of RyJ WC had serious burn issues. 2014 box I believe. Flavor was less than amazing in general as well.

As an aside, I've been having burn issues with many, many cigars with 50+ RG over the last few years. More than I should. 46 RG and under are generally far less of a problem. 42s very consistent.

Age never hurts, and insuring proper storage conditions, of course. Other than that, not much one can do but invest in a good butane torch for touch-ups.

I have a 10ct box from 14' that I purchased from here. The two cigars that I have had so far have been great in taste and burn. I did "dry box" them at 59-60% for 1-2 weeks before I tried them though. I have found that cigars that have burn construction issues never taste good most likely due to the wrapper, binder and filler proportions being different than what was intended. Another thing is take your time with the big ring guage cigars when you light them. I like to light them gradually and make sure there is an even burn ring at the start.

Yep, true, in particular if the ligero isn't placed centrally and/or cigar is underfilled. Becoming more relevant with larger ring gauges.

Never had any problems as reported, touch wood.  But then, I do like to keep my larger RG smokes at 60-63% so that may make a difference.

I also found the construction quality better than normal for Cubans.

They have been part of my regular rotation for the past two years or so...

Hmmm .... what would you suggest as an alternative?

The fat churchill?

The circumferentially gifted churchill?

The short toro?

The extra-dimensional robusto?

The chipolata?

:D

Have two boxes bought in Dubai AEM FEB 14 and AEM SEP 14. Smoking very well. Found that some have needed touching up with an uneven burn, but overall, pretty good. Very tasty.

Love them.,first one I smoked was from opening night of the Partagas celebration 2014. One of the best smokes ever.

Have since smoked a half dozen more and they were great.

Try dry boxing - does wonders.  A little down time to acclimate to your humi and they are awesome!  Only have had a few, but none have had burn issues.  To the contrary, the burn has always been for me razor sharp.  Hands down my favorite.  If you get a good one, they are sublime.

I have a couple 10 count boxes from 2012 and I smoked one within a couple months and absolutely hated the cigar.  Revisited it a couple years later and absolutely loved the cigar.  Have enjoyed them since and they have all had great construction.

Hopefully you will have the same experience.

Let them aclimate to your humidor and Keep your hands off of them for 3-6 months. Once they stary to stink dive right in. Smoke it all the way down and if your last puffs are still bliss, they are ready.

I've only got them from Rob, but they've been some of my favorite fresh cigars ever (along with the HU Connie A).  Working through my 3rd box, no burn issues to speak of.

Could yours have been a bit wet?

I've smoked thru nearly a 25 box since xmas. Nothing ill to speak of them, I guess it's obvious I enjoy them quite a bit. The flavor profile on these for me is just amazing. Also just ordered some aged stock from our host, expect they will nothing short of amazing as well.

Who knows if it's true, but:

One day, Winston Churchill went to the bathroom and ran into the head of the Labour Party (Socialist), who was his political opponent (at that point, Curchill was  quite conservative). Churchill took the urinal furthest from him. The head of the Labour Party said,"Feeling standoffish, Winston?"

Churchill responded, “Not at all. It’s just that whenever you Labourite chaps see something that is large, you want to nationalize it.”

sooo... The Standoffish Winston?

Makes sense there. In my experience, any cigar less than 2 years old benefits from a bit of dry boxing. But then I'm also biased. I love all of the RyJ Churchill 'variations'

Calling @Joshtupps to this thread! A RyJ wide boy fan - please feedback Sir.

I was just gifted one of these on Saturday so I will let it acclimatize to my preference before burning. I don't remember ever trying one before (possibly once) but looking forward to it. Not a fan of the format but hey, there's a time and place for everything and variety is the spice of life as they say!
