Akela3rd Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 My son (now 18) and I are off for our annual father/son camping trip to the Lake District this Saturday. It's our 10th year since my Mrs decided to give up camping and has developed into a real backwoods week. We're in hammocks (who needs tents?), cook on an open fire, fish for our dinner, cut wood, hike, wild swim, explore and generally chill out. I'll be packing a selection of cigars large and small and wondered what others might take or suggest. It's the evenings by the campfire I'm really looking forward to. My current list, which will no doubt change right up to the moment I load the car is : Montecristo 2s & 5s Quintero Favoritos Dunhill Churchill Bolivar LE'13 RACA LE '15s 2
Fugu Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 I'd say, given your setting, the cigars are secondary! Jealous - have a great time!
Dave O))) Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Bloody great tradition you've created. Inspires me do same with my three boys when they come of age. We had our first family camp last Easter. Good times and the nightly cigar meant I slept like a baby. My humble suggestion for a campfire smoke; Mag 50

archosaur Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 I love cigars in the wilderness. For some reason I tend to pack Partagas for these occasions. 1
CaptainQuintero Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 You're brave with the rain we've been having in the peaks recently Sounds like an awesome time, just remember gas for your lighters, I always forget it and if I bring one lighter it always guarantees to break straight away
SmittyinAZ Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 The smokes are just the cherry on top. Enjoy time with the young as we all know they grow up and leave so fast.
Akela3rd Posted May 27, 2016 Author Posted May 27, 2016 RyJ Cazadores. This is partly why I posted, as i missed out on recent 24:24 and haven't got any left! They are built for the great outdoors, but what else is good? Sent from my HTC One M8s using Tapatalk
Jager223 Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 Sounds awesome man, hope the weather holds out for you. My favourite outdoor smoke is the PSD4, their earthiness lends itself well to that kinda environment.

But, admitted, I can smoke them always and everywhere....
Akela3rd Posted May 27, 2016 Author Posted May 27, 2016 Ooh. I've got an untouched of BCJs - I'll break in on your recommendation. Ta. Sent from my HTC One M8s using Tapatalk 1
Corylax18 Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 I spent a few days camping In Pike National Forest (CO, USA) last weekend. I smoked a couple PLMC's, but I can smoke them all day everyday if I had the time. I also had a couple RASS, that while not fresh, still have a bit of a bite. I tend to lean for richer cigars for around the camp fire, the smells of the woods, and the campfire smoke can drown out more nuanced or subtle smokes.
RijkdeGooier Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 Cazzies, RyJ No.1, RASS, Partagas Petit Coronas Extra should be good outdoors. These are in my outdoors rotation and pack a fair punch
Popular Post Akela3rd Posted June 1, 2016 Author Popular Post Posted June 1, 2016 First Wi-Fi for three days in the fleshpot of Ambleside, so here's a few pics as promised. I'll bore you with more when I get back. (yes, I've been whittling) Tabaquero Corona from 24:24 in Feb (?). Rob was wrong - don't wait a year, they're beautiful now! Popular Post Akela3rd Posted June 3, 2016 Author Popular Post Posted June 3, 2016 Just out of the woods. Back to reality - Ho hum. Party MF Tabaquero part 2 Breakfast bar Monte 2 on the last evening. Lovely week in the woods, hills and lakes. Already booked for next year. Favorite campfire smoke? Tabaquero Corona. Hands down winner - strong, slow burning, heavy in the hand, beautiful flavours and construction. 6
dflan82 Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 Glad you had a great trip. I was tied up with work this week and missed this post, but I am going on my annual camping trip soon as well. Great group of guys that have been getting out to the woods and water for the past 19 years. I usually bring a bunch of Non Cuban cigars that I don't mind pitching halfway through or get too upset if they end up in the drink. A variety from Tatuaje, My Father, Illusione, and Drew Estate. I also like to bring a few quality Cubans to enjoy during those down times. This year I'm planning on bringing: - Ramon Allones Gigantes - Partagas Lusitanias - HDM Epi 1 - Partagas 898 - H. Upmann Connie A Cheers, Dan 1

Long strong cigars for the campfire in the evening and smaller, less heavy smoking cigars for fly fishing and the tops of the fells (Monte 5 on Tarn Crag was perfect). It's just nice to get away from it all for a while, innit? Enjoy the trip! Neil 1
eswary Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 Sounds perfect to me! Campfire with drink: DC's Fishing: PC & robustos Camping and cigars go hand and hand with me. I bring a variety just just about any occasion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Akela3rd Posted June 24, 2016 Author Posted June 24, 2016 Off to the New Forest and Brownsea Island with my Cub pack. Once they're in their tents and asleep the leaders can have the campfire to themselves. It's the perfect way to end the day. Weather is set fair so it should be a good one. Here's my options - packed a wide variety because by midnight (If they're asleep by then...) I don't know what'll take my fancy, if anything by then.
Akela3rd Posted June 25, 2016 Author Posted June 25, 2016 Friday night. Cubs eventually settled - Party MF - and relax...
Akela3rd Posted June 26, 2016 Author Posted June 26, 2016 Saturday night - cubs are knackered and asleep a lot earlier. Monte 2 into the wee hours. Perfect. 1
