schquigly Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 So my friend is coming over after work to have his first Cuban cigar. He's been smoking regularly for a few years and hasn't taken the plunge from NC to CC yet, so I'll be breaking his cherry so to speak. I've gotten my list down to 3 for him to try. Montecristo no2 RASS Boli BF I think any of the above would be great introductions to what CCs are all about, I just can't decide which to go with... Most of the time I just wait for one of them to "call out to me." Any suggestions would be great! Scott
cosmoker Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 If he is used to NC's then I would suggest the Boli BF. I think it is a little more on the spicier side that he would akin to. 2
foursite12 Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 While the Monte is not necessarily my personal favorite, this is about your friend and his intro to CC. I think for the sole purpose of being a representative sample the monte presents the world of CCs more universally than either of the other two.

I was thinking the Monty would be the most 'generic' CC flavor to start with.
ChefBoyRG54 Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 The boli bf may play well to a stronger transotioner given its boldness, but the rass may be the one that really catches him off guard 2
LeafLover Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 I would stay away from giving him anything that is more similar to NC. He might draw quick comparisons (ie strength and spice) then say "it's not much different than my NC. Give him the flavor bomb and the Cuban complexity. For this is voted Monte 2. 2
stogieluver Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 My first thought was to give him the iconic Monte 2, but they have been so inconsistent, I changed by vote to the RASS.
joeboxer Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 My vote is RASS. It has the strength and body to appeal to more traditional NC smokers but a flavor profile that marks it as a Cuban cigar. IMO a quality Monte 2 also has a very unique profile that cannot be found in NC, but they are inconsistent in quality. The BBF has more similarities to NC than the RASS or M2 in my experience.
planetary Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Which of the cigars have been most consistent, and deliver rich flavor? Choose that one. If pressed, I'd choose Monty 2. Tough to think of a better first Cuban cigar!
Pharmacovigilant Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Of these three, the Monte 2 may serve as the best "reference point" from which to orient a newbie. Of course we have milder and bolder examples across the spectrum, but if you'd like to introduce him to the world of CCs with something that is most representative (not to mention legendary, or "identifiable" among the uninitiated) then the No.2 may be the best example. 1
aliz388 Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Monte 2 provided it's a got a good wrapper and is well rolled. When it's on its ON! However as previously stated many issues with consistency.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ksblazer Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 I would describe the flavor profiles of the three cigars and find out which one he might prefer to start with. 1
RijkdeGooier Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Monte 2 is the best representative of the Cuban cigar taste. 1
earthson Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 BBF might be the best to get his feet wet; most Bolivars taste a bit Nicaraguan to me, which is why I don't typically buy them. The RASS is a personal favorite and a cigar I unconsciously measure most others up against. It's supremely complex, develops in flavor along the length of it, and is such a good mix of rustic and refined, in my opinion. Why not get a couple boxes or a sampler so your friend can experience the range of flavor profiles across the different marcas? I didn't mention the Monte 2 because Monte is one brand that never quite wowed me. Quality tobacco, of course, but I just don't like the blend.
luv2fly Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 BFF or RASS. Both great intros to CC's in my mind. I gave a friend a BFF for his first CC some years back and he fell in love with CC's and has not looked back.
