CaptainQuintero Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 I've been talking to a friend who runs a cigar bar in HK and he was telling me about the siglo 5 and the new blend change. I had to stop to think for a moment, I hadn't heard anything about this anywhere. Apparently with the new cohiba bands, the siglo line has been given a tinkering to make it more mild and acceptable. He was not sure where this was permanent or something temporary (Cohiba shortage?) Just wondering if anyone else has great anything on this?
CaptainQuintero Posted April 6, 2016 Author Posted April 6, 2016 That was my initial thought too, it was the quality of the source which made me take a second to have a think about it
oliverdst Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 The problem is the wrapper and not the binder/filler, isnt it?
mgravito Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 Is it possible with some bad crops that they needed to adjust the blend somewhat and use less ligero?

JohnS Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 I'm planning to have an aged Siglo V this weekend. However, I haven't even seen the current Siglo V's around in the last 12 months.
Dimmers Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 Interesting...... has anyone who has smoked many of the new banded Siglo's, noticed anything different ? I havent smoked a single new band one as yet.
danny Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 I highly doubt it. Especially such a specific change to one viola. Doesn't make any sense given that some cigars at various factories used up old bands and converted to the new bands without a second thought. I'm sure someone would've heard something.
avaldes Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 That would suck if true. A good Siglo V is a marvelous cigar! I used to smoke a fair amount of V's and about 10 years ago I got a box with darker wrappers. I still think that was a box of Partagas 898's with Cohiba bands. Ever since that experience I slowed way down on Siglo V's. In fact I may have only had one other box since then. It too wasn't up to par.

I've smoked a good share of new and old band Cohibas in the last 12 months and I haven't noticed obvious blend differences other than the contrast you get from aging.
