I still don't think it is going to be that easy when cigars are concerned. It will take some time with the duplicate brands that Hsa and General Cigar produce. It will be in the courts for a while before anything happens with Cigars. On that note I will be stocking up on my favourites to ensure that I have stock on hand while this gets sorted out. It might just be wishful thinking on my part, but I think it will take a while before everything gets sorted out. There is A LOT of money at stake.

That's true. But there is much, much more money to be made. And by many more companies. That is why the embargo isn't long for this earth. Any copyright or intellectual property issues will disappear very quickly when those companies and others see the new opportunities.

Agreed Andy. From what is being whispered is that the trademark issue is as good as done (on most of them).

Well this sucks...pod.gif. I wonder WHEN CCs become legal, what the kind of import taxes will be for Americans.

As long as it is based on price and not weight (tobacco weight), you should be sweet.

I'm still of the mindset that it will be a long while before the embargo is actually lifted. That said, it's going to be a royal shitshow immediately afterwards. People selling fakes will be all over the damn place.

There's a federal tax of 40 cents per cigar currently. States can charge taxes above and beyond that.

" People selling fakes will be all over the damn place."

Lots of first timers saying "Tastes like a Dominican to me"

'There's a federal tax of 40 cents per cigar currently.'

The $$$ is supposed to be earmarked to provide medical care for the offspring of deadbeat daddies.Anyone heard ANYTHING about this program?

Agree. There is currently a lot of litigation going on. With the speed of sludge that the US courts have, it'll be a good while. Still, another good reason to buy more CC's! clap.gif

The FDA will have a hayday with it, if it does happen.

The US approach (at the Federal level) to cigars won't change. The $.40 per stick tax will still apply, but they're not going to say "oh extra tax if it's from Cuba". The most likely scenario would be to raise the cigar tax in general, with no regard to country of origin. If CC's are super expensive in the US after the ban lifts, it won't have jack to do with the government or taxes, it will be 100% due to that old econ driver of supply and demand. That same driver will also be why I will continue to buy from our host. Once the ban lifts, fakes will flood the US.

Just my opinion

I, for one, will continue to frequent this fine establishment. If you're worried about taxes, this is one way to avoid the mess they're making of that here in the US.

I like the service and the attention to detail around here. It's a great community and I'll continue to be a part of it. Rob has built more than a cigar shop here.

Exactly, as long as Rob still lets us purchase from him, who really cares. The only thing I foresee being an issue is possibly the supply.

Also, it would take Congress to lift the Embargo. That change doesn't seem likely to happen. This will certainly be a high turnout election for both sides. However money talks. Then again, that is why the trademark issues will not be quickly resolved.
