I acquired an older box (2000 or 2001). Unfortunately the construction is bad in general on the 4 or 5 I have smoked. The flavor profile is great, but all in all I'll opt for young cigars in the future. Makes me wonder why there seems to be a lot of them around.

No need to wonder - quite a high percentage of badly constructed sticks in those.

I ask myself that too!:)

Other than a snug draw, 2000 and 2001 have been VERY good to me. RASS, Monte Esp.#1, and HU MAG 46s.

The ERDM are SEP 2001. I guess I will bite the bullet and find out myself.

Thanks for your response!

They're on their way to the grave, IMHO.

I purchased a box from 1998 in 2006, the cigars were still pleasant but clearly on the decline.

Add to this the very probable construction issues in a 2001 box, and ask yourself if you need a box of tight lonsdales that are so mild that they must be smoked in the morning…

There is a reason the lonsdale can still be found nowadays, while the corona and the corona gorda of the marca are very hard to find (not to mention the Grandes de España)…

My 2 cents.

I have to agree. There are some excellent cigars from those years. Never had a serious problem. There is the occasional stiffer draw, but never really had a plugged one. Same holds for a few boxes of 2000 HUL, pure bliss.

From my experience these show no more draw issues that any other, more recent lonsdale. You could experience the same with a late SP Molinos or VR Clasicos. Seems to be more inherent in the format than in the "difficult" years. At least for this format and these marcas. A Monte No. 1 or No. 3 from those years can be a different game.

Even though you're about as smooth as sandpaper when communicating and in your delivery, I have to say that just about every time you chime in, you're right in what you say.

Yes, it appears that Smallclub is a very straightforward person. I like that. Here, he is probably right again in his assessment, I can't quite comment on the 1998 ERDM Lonnies, but the 2000 and 2001 I don't find to be going downhill yet. If so, then my GDEs are as well....wink.png

And perhaps, who knows (to say it with MRN), they currently undergo their second 'vacuum' phase....tongue.png

They are milder, yes, but they are still very flavourfull, and I find it very nice to have a selection of cigars that can be savoured earlier in the day or in the early afternoon.

I have a few lonsdales left that are smoking great. Have to confirm the year. I'm actually smoking a 2000 Tainos right now that's really special.
