With Christmas and New Year just around the corner, I wonder how you guys handle the endless socialising and partying?

Every year, I try to take a month off alcohol before Christmas, and then a couple of weeks in the New Year.

I tend to take it easy on the cigars in those periods as well.

I'll be alighting the wagon on Dec 16th this year (no doubt somewhat spectacularly) after nearly 6 weeks off the booze, and have agreed with my mates in the local pub that we'll all do Dry-anuary as well.

What's your festive season regime?

Wife's family doesn't drink.....me & the wife do, but usually one of us have to drive. I just keep my drinking at home. Easier that way.

I come from somewhat of a teetotaling Southern Baptist family, but "teetotaling" in the way that means "everyone drinks, we just don't want anyone to *see* us doing it." So alcohol was never very present for *anything* when I was growing up (my first wedding where alcohol was served was when I was 20.), much less during the Holidays. Since my cousins and I have grown up, gotten married, etc. however, we just bring our own booze and let come what may.

Lots of Christmas movies and a significant increase in the consumption of alcohol. Something about the changing weather makes dark, seasonal beer and whiskey/whisky all the more appealing.

I have a very strict regime planned... http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=125134 can't wait!

I have an office Christmas party today - kick off 12.45pm precisely - for 1 hour 15 mins! Will be taking along a Cohiba Siglo II for my between courses smoke. The pleasure will be all mine. party.gif

The entire season is about Thanksgiving for me. Thanksgiving is a magical day. A day when you get to wake up early and have a nice light breakfast (with Mimosas or my patented "Brunch Punch") and start cooking (drinks continue). You live the day with the people that matter the most, sharing camaraderie, and then, the crescendo is the meal. And the the crescendo to the crescendo is the post meal scotch and cigar.

I like to socialize with people who prefer "fire watching" to lots of pointless conversation. Now that I've decided to get involved with a woman with WAY more of a "social agenda" than myself it's become difficult. I have to share my precious overstuffed leather chair time with people who want to "talk". So I bring scotch and cigars and lure the other men outside... It's a plan that nearly always works perfectly.

The Christmas lunch ended. Alas - no opportunity enjoy a mid-meal smoke.

After having queued up at the bar to buy a drink, by which time my entree had reached ambient temperature, the conversation was devoid of personality and vigour. I was certainly saddened to have been invited to such a lifeless event, so badly organized, and felt pity for those employees whose day to day work experience was working alongside individuals masquerading as managers with as little personality as a door stop. I hope other businesses make time for some festive discussions, niceties, and some seasonal cheer with their employees at Christmas get togethers - today's experience was very humdrum.

I am now off to take a double espresso and enjoy a Montecristo No.2 in the park while I think of those I left behind.
